Qualifications

Role Overview

Barbeque Nation Hospitality Ltd. is seeking an experienced and technically strong Head – MEP to lead the design, planning, review, and execution of all MEP systems across restaurant development projects. The role will be responsible for ensuring that all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Drainage, HVAC, Fire Protection, and Kitchen Hood Suppression systems are designed and executed in line with operational requirements, safety standards, statutory regulations, and project timelines.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in restaurant, hospitality, retail, or food-service projects and possess strong expertise in commercial kitchen infrastructure and multi-site project rollouts.

Key Responsibilities

MEP Design & Engineering Leadership

• Lead the design, review, and implementation of MEP systems for new restaurant projects, renovations, and refurbishments.
• Establish MEP design standards, specifications, and engineering best practices across all projects.
• Review consultant drawings, technical specifications, BOQs, and engineering calculations.
• Ensure seamless coordination between architecture, interiors, kitchen planning, and MEP services.

HVAC & Ventilation Systems

• Design and review HVAC systems for dining areas, kitchens, stores, and back-of-house operations.
• Ensure proper ventilation, fresh air requirements, temperature control, and indoor air quality.
• Review kitchen exhaust systems, make-up air systems, and grease duct routing.
• Optimize HVAC systems for operational efficiency and energy conservation.

Plumbing & Drainage Systems

• Design and review water supply, drainage, grease waste, venting, and sewage systems.
• Ensure proper sizing and coordination of grease traps, floor drains, and kitchen utility requirements.
• Verify compliance with local plumbing standards and restaurant operational needs.
• Coordinate water storage and distribution requirements for outlets.

Kitchen Hood & Fire Suppression Systems

• Review and coordinate commercial kitchen hood systems and exhaust requirements.
• Ensure proper integration of hood suppression systems with electrical and gas interlocks.
• Coordinate with fire consultants and local authorities for approvals.
• Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and operational requirements.

Electrical Systems

• Review electrical load calculations and power distribution layouts.
• Ensure adequate power supply for kitchen equipment, HVAC systems, lighting, signage, and utilities.
• Review lighting designs and energy-efficient solutions.
• Coordinate emergency power requirements and critical equipment connections.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and authority requirements.

Project Management & Execution

• Support project teams during planning, tendering, contractor selection, and execution phases.
• Conduct design reviews, site inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Resolve technical issues during construction and fit-out stages.
• Monitor project quality, cost, and timelines from an MEP perspective.
• Ensure timely project handover and operational readiness.

Compliance & Approvals

• Ensure compliance with building codes, fire regulations, health requirements, and statutory approvals.
• Coordinate with local authorities, consultants, and vendors for approvals and inspections.
• Maintain updated knowledge of emerging technologies, sustainability practices, and industry standards.

Vendor & Team Management

• Manage MEP consultants, contractors, vendors, and service providers.
• Evaluate contractor performance and quality of execution.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to internal project teams.
• Drive standardization and continuous improvement across projects.
