2. Role
Summary

The Portfolio & Business Development Head (Oncology) will lead the end-to-end strategic growth, asset evaluation, and pipeline curation for the company's oncology franchise. Leveraging deep clinical and scientific expertise in oncology alongside commercial acumen, this leader will spearhead the identification, evaluation, and execution of high-value 505(b)(2) opportunities and Novel Drug Delivery Systems (NDDS)—such as targeted nanoparticles, liposomal formulations, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), long-acting injectables, and complex generics.

The ideal candidate will bridge clinical science and commercial strategy, driving inorganic growth, alliance management, and portfolio prioritization to establish market leadership in the oncology segment.

3. Key Responsibilities
  • Oncology Portfolio Vision: Define and execute the long-term portfolio roadmap for the oncology therapy area, aligning pipeline assets with corporate revenue and margin targets.
  • 505(b)(2) & NDDS Strategy: Identify clinical and regulatory gaps in existing oncology standards of care and conceptualize 505(b)(2) value-added paths (e.g., improved safety profiles, reduced toxicity, alternative delivery routes, patient‑centric combination therapies).
  • Asset Prioritization: Conduct rigorous risk‑adjusted net present value (rNPV) modeling, portfolio health checks, and gap analyses to prioritize pipeline candidates across preclinical, clinical, and commercial stages.
B. Business Development & Deal Sourcing
  • Scouting & In‑Licensing: Actively scan the global biotech and pharma landscape (academic institutions, startup labs, mid‑sized firms) to source novel oncology drug delivery technologies and clinical‑stage assets.
  • Deal Structuring & Negotiation: Lead end‑to‑end deal negotiations for in‑licensing, co‑development, asset acquisitions, and strategic partnerships, collaborating closely with legal, IP, and finance teams.
  • Alliance Management: Oversee post‑merger integration and external partnerships, ensuring joint steering committees meet scientific milestones and commercial deliverables.
  • Clinical Due Diligence: Evaluate clinical trial data (Phase I–III), mechanism of action, biomarker strategies, and regulatory feasibility of candidate molecules, leveraging advanced academic training in oncology.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor competitive intelligence, patent expirations (LOE/Paragraph IV opportunities), pricing pressures, and emerging trends in oncology therapeutics.
4. Qualifications & Experience Requirements
Education:
  • Mandatory: Master’s degree or Doctorate in Oncology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, or a closely related medical/life sciences field (e.g., Ph.D., Pharm.D., MD, or M.Pharm in Oncology).
  • Preferred: MBA in Finance, Strategy, or Healthcare Management from a premier institution.
  • Experience:
  • 10 to 15 years of progressive experience within the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5–7 years in managing Business Development, Portfolio Management, or Strategy.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully closing and executing licensing deals or strategic partnerships in the Oncology therapeutic segment.
  • Technical & Domain Expertise:
  • Deep understanding of the US FDA 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway and global drug development frameworks.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of advanced drug delivery systems (nanoparticles, liposomes, sustained‑release injectables, targeted therapies).
  • Strong foundation in oncology clinical trial design, biomarker‑driven drug development, and intellectual property (IP) landscapes.
5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Pipeline Expansion: Number of qualified 505(b)(2) and DDS oncology assets scouted and vetted annually.
  • Deal Execution: Successful closing of 2–3 high‑impact in‑licensing, co‑development, or acquisition deals within a defined fiscal period.
  • Portfolio Value: Contribution of new pipeline assets to the long‑term rNPV and future revenue projection of the organization.
  • Time‑to‑Milestone: Effective governance of partnered programs moving from due diligence to clinical/regulatory filing.
