Job summary

Chennai Radha Engineering Works (CREW) is seeking a mechanical design engineer to design and detail bulk material handling equipment such as belt conveyors, hoppers and chutes. You will prepare 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD and CADWorx, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.

You will support stacker/reclaimer designs, perform basic calculations, assist in selecting motors and other components, and prepare bills of materials.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in SolidWorks part modelling, assembly modelling and drawing preparation.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD for 2D layouts and detailed engineering drawings.
• Experience with CADWorx for plant layouts and equipment interfaces.
• Understanding of bulk material properties and their influence on equipment design.
• Knowledge of machine elements, welded structures, sheet metal fabrication, tolerances and engineering drawing practices.
• Familiarity with relevant IS, ISO and CEMA standards.
• Ability to interpret tender specifications, client requirements and vendor drawings.
• Good coordination, problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and detail bulk material handling equipment, including belt conveyors, feeders, hoppers, chutes, transfer towers and associated mechanical assemblies.
• Support the design of stackers, reclaimers and stockyard handling systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Prepare 3D models, assemblies, general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD and CADWorx, as applicable.
• Perform basic engineering calculations for conveyor capacity, belt speed, power requirements and mechanical component selection.
• Assist in selecting motors, gearboxes, couplings, bearings, pulleys, idlers and other bought-out components.
• Prepare bills of materials, material take-offs and technical specifications.
• Check drawings for dimensional accuracy, assembly clearances, accessibility, maintainability and fabrication feasibility.
• Coordinate with structural, electrical, procurement, production and project teams to resolve design interfaces.
• Incorporate client comments, vendor information and site requirements into drawings and maintain revision records.
• Provide engineering support during fabrication, erection and commissioning.
