Job summary

Vodafone in India is seeking a Network Operations Engineer to minimize business impacts from outages in the IP/MPLS backbone, Internet networks and critical enterprise services. You will identify root causes and resolve issues round the clock, drive change processes and collaborate with development teams for deployment and testing.

You will operate IP network devices, provide 24x7 support, handle incidents, analyse faults, and document configurations.

Qualifications

• Experience with IP networks, routing and switching.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex outages and incidents.
• Willingness to work in a 24x7 operational model.

Job Role

The function of this role is to ensure the business impacts of critical and complex outages in the area of IP/MPLS backbone, Internet networks and critical enterprise services are minimized by identifying root causes and resolving issues round the clock. The candidate will be accountable for minimizing the impact of network changes, reducing human errors by driving change processes effectively. They will also identify automation opportunities, collaborate with development teams for deployment, testing, and achieve expected benefits. The role requires working with multiple teams locally and geographically to resolve or reduce incidents efficiently.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities

• Operation and maintenance of IP network devices and local market connectivity (CISCO 9k, 12k, ASR, routers; Juniper‑MX960; Alcatel‑7750; other connected IP network elements)
• Provide continuous 24x7 support of the IP core network
• Handle network complaints and incident management
• Analyse and resolve hardware and software faults, ensure service continuity, perform disaster recovery and RMA
• Raise problem‑management tickets and identify root causes
• Provide hands‑on troubleshooting for at least one vendor (Cisco, Juniper, or Alcatel)
• Demonstrate routing and switching experience
• Identify single points of failure and isolate root causes of outages
• Prepare downtime and outage notifications and reports for preventive maintenance
• Monitor capacity and produce reports
• Document IP network architecture and configurations
• Manage SLA requirements
• Python scripting knowledge is an added advantage
