Job summary

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles in Oragadam is seeking an experienced Manager Fire & Safety to lead fire protection strategies across the plant. You will oversee risk assessments, NFPA/NBC compliance, emergency plans, and fire water systems, alarms, and extinguishers.

Ideal candidates bring NFPA 551 expertise, IS 2190 experience, strong leadership, and hands-on safety program delivery in a heavy-vehicle environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have NFPA 551 experience and NBC familiarity.
  • Experience with fire water systems, alarms, and extinguishers.
  • Knowledge of statutory fire licensing and RTO compliance.
  • Ability to prepare onsite/offsite emergency plans.
  • Demonstrated leadership in safety-critical operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement fire management plans: prevention, detection, suppression, restoration.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, NBC, and local regulations across the site.
  • Lead fire safety team and manage training and drills.
  • Oversee fire water systems, fire tenders, and extinguishers maintenance.
  • Coordinate emergency response and liaise with agencies during incidents.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Manager Fire & Safety to provide expert advice on all fire-related matters including systems, operations, and contract management at our Oragadam plant. The role ensures service delivery, compliance with fire regulations, codes, and standards, and appropriate risk management across the facility.

Mandatory Technical Requirements — Non Negotiable

Candidates MUST have knowledge and experience in ALL of the following:

  • Fire risk assessment knowledge as per NFPA 551
  • Basic standard knowledge on NFPA and NBC (National Building Code)
  • Fire water system, pump room, and fire tender knowledge
  • Fire extinguisher knowledge as per IS 2190
  • Fire alarm and fire fighting system knowledge
  • Knowledge of different types of fire hazards and mitigation plans
  • Onsite and offsite emergency plan preparation
  • Fire prevention and fire fighting experience
  • Statutory requirements — Fire License, RTO compliance
  • Emergency response on different emergency scenarios
  • Team handling, decision making, and leadership skills

Key Responsibilities
Strategic
  • Create comprehensive plans for fire management — prevention, detection, suppression, and restoration
  • Ensure worksite compliance with all fire regulations — NFPA, NBC, and local statutory requirements
Operational
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to manage fire safety compliance across all assets
  • Conduct regular fire risk assessments as per NFPA 551
  • Develop and implement onsite and offsite emergency response plans
  • Provide fire safety training to employees to build a positive safety culture
  • Conduct regular fire drills to ensure employee preparedness
  • Establish fire safety inspection programs to control potential fire hazards
  • Manage fire water systems, pump rooms, fire tenders, and fire fighting equipment
  • Ensure fire extinguisher compliance as per IS 2190
  • Monitor fire alarm systems and fire fighting system performance
Vendor & Agency Management
  • Shortlist and select outsourced fire safety agencies — define scope and evaluate technical capabilities
  • Conduct regular performance discussions with agency managers and prepare improvement action plans
Budget & Compliance
  • Provide inputs for operational and capital expenditure budget planning
  • Monitor expenses against assigned budget and ensure compliance
  • Liaise with TNFRS and RTO for renewal of Fire License, vehicle registration, and Fitness Certificate
Project & Audit Support
  • Handle fire protection and detection projects providing input as per NFPA and NBC standards
  • Support internal and external audits — prepare schedules and ensure documentation readiness
  • Supervise issuance of authorizations for hot work and confined space entry
Emergency Management
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams during emergencies
  • Activate Emergency Management Plan for situation control
  • Lead emergency response across different emergency scenarios
