Job summary

Ola Electric is seeking a Senior Role in Manufacturing Engineering for Battery Assembly in Tamil Nadu. You will drive strategic planning, execution, and continuous improvement of all manufacturing operations, leading engineers and technicians to meet quality and productivity goals.

You will design and deploy automated battery lines, manage RFQs, document processes (PFMEA, control plans), and collaborate with suppliers. Domestic and international travel may be required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in manufacturing/production/industrial/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with EV battery manufacturing experience.
Total work experience 10+ years with significant experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
Knowledge of automotive production systems and IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, APQP, JIT/JIS, TPS, TQM.

Responsibilities

Strategically plan, execute, and continuously improve all manufacturing operations and industrial engineering initiatives.
Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians in Battery assembly operations.
Design automated EV Battery production lines for flow, ergonomics, efficiency, scalability, and quality monitoring.
Oversee design, procurement, construction, simulation, and deployment of Battery Lines/Machines for various volumes.

Job Title: Senior Role

Department: Manufacturing Engineering - Battery Assembly

Role & responsibilities

Responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and continuous enhancement of all manufacturing operations and industrial engineering initiatives. This position is instrumental in driving operational excellence, process optimization, product quality, and innovation, while leading a team of engineers and designers to deliver business objectives.
Lead and mentor a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians supporting Battery assembly operations.
Accountable for designing of automated EV Battery production lines for product flow, ergonomics and efficiency, scalability, standardization, and continuous quality monitoring.
Responsible for designing, procurement, construction, simulation and deployment of manufacturing EV Battery Lines/Machines for low, medium, and high volume production.
As delegated responsibility for developing and managing the process for characterization and validation of new Lines/equipment, fixtures for the introduction of the production lines to the shop floor.
Preparation of detailed Equipment specifications and RFQ for Assembly lines such as Battery module assembly, pack assembly & EOL testing ( Capacity tester)
Develop the required process documentations such as process flow charts, Line Layout, PFMEA, control plan, etc. for every production and assembly Lines such as Battery module assembly, pack assembly & EOL testing ( Capacity tester)
Laser welding process parameters control and defect reductions
Preparation of Budget Estimation for Assembly Lines and realization of it by preparing the Assembly Lines within stipulated Budget and as per Project timeline.
Evaluation of execution risks and appropriate mitigation plans developed and ownership clearly established.
Development of cost-effective solutions for battery assembly process
Capex and strategy for optimized spare parts for the entire line.
Execution of manufacturing engineering, and product engineering advanced technology work projects
Application of problem solving methodologies for internal and external issue resolution
Development of advance technology work projects including budgets, deliverables and project timing
Development of new tooling and gauging methods.
Providing manufacturing support to develop next generation EV products.
Providing manufacturing support to Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers.

Educational Qualification

Bachelor Degree in manufacturing / production / industrial engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering with experience of working in the Manufacturing Engineering Department of EV Battery manufacturing industry
More than 15+ years of experience in total with significant experience in the manufacturing Engineering Department.
Experience and thorough knowledge of Automotive production systems, processes and International Standards such as IATF 16949, VDA 6.3 and APQP Procedure, JIT/JIS, TPS and TQM.
Typically part of a larger effort or project, Novel manufacturing process definition and setup & Human factors & Ergonomics Analysis Experience.
Process management skills.
Experience in providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources.

Technical Skills

Experience on Manufacturing Engineering & Process development for Battery assembly line
Experience on Laser welding process
Experience on sealant and glue dispensing ( both 1K and 2K)
Experience on BMS testing and troubleshooting
Experience in verification of Product Design of Battery Assy for the manufacturability and identification of necessary changes and making proposals for improving it.
Experience in Problem Solving Techniques on Key processes of Battery Assembly.
Familiar with latest Battery manufacturing techniques and innovative approaches.
Experience in efficient material flow, Layout creation using 2D CAD softwares, Handling PCBAs,Transfer of Battery Materials.
RFQ and detailed Equipment specifications Preparation and project management for Assembly Lines, tools, stations or specific technologies
Preparation of Process Documentation such as PFC, Line Layout, PFMEA, Control Plan related to Battery Assembly Lines.
Relationship with Key Automation Suppliers inside & out of India for Battery Assembly Lines
Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of Assembly Lines, Equipment and tools required in plants for the production of Battery Assy
Readiness to travel within and outside India to Machine Suppliers as required for Line development.
