Job description

The Maintenance Tooling Technician is responsible for constructing, modifying, overhauling, and repairing high-precision production tooling, lamination dies, punches, stamping tools, plastic injection molds, machining jigs, stator winding components, and assembly fixtures across all factory sectors. Operating both in the precision workshop and providing direct cross-functional field support to Assembly, Stator, Machining, and Stamping lines, the technician ensures extreme dimensional accuracy, minimizes tool downtime, maximizes asset life cycle, and strictly operates under rigid manufacturing quality and safety standards to support a high-volume production of 6 million compressors per year.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Stamping Tooling & Die Restoration: Coordinate and execute specialized bench adjustment, maintenance, and complex structural recovery of high-cadence lamination stamping tools, progressive dies, cutting/bending/drawing tools, and plastic injection molds.
  2. Stator & Winding Tooling Support: Perform technical inspection, precision wear adjustments, and structural repairs on high-speed stator manufacturing components, including winding nozzles, insulation insertion guides, tying equipment teeth, and forming expansion tools.
  3. Assembly & Robotics Fixtures: Build, adapt, and maintain high-precision automated assembly line mechanisms, mechanical grippers for robotic arms (Kuka, Kawasaki, ABB), welding fixtures (MIG/MAG/Laser), leak-test connectors, and dedicated product assembly templates.
  4. Machining Jigs & Fixtures: Execute micro-level precision setup, geometric correction, and breakdown maintenance on high-accuracy machining center fixtures, hydraulic/pneumatic clamps, transfer line grippers, and precision tooling cassettes to prevent dimensional machining deviations.
  5. Precision Machining Operation: Prepare and operate both conventional and CNC machine tools (milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, wire/penetration EDM, and laser cutting systems) to manufacture or modify high-precision replacement tool components.
  6. Technical Interpretation & GD&T: Master the reading, interpretation, and mapping of complex technical drawings, mechanical blueprints, and specialized manufacturing schematics using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) rules.
  7. Dimensional & Quality Control: Perform strict dimensional, tolerance, and geometry control of refurbished components and final machined prototypes, utilizing micro-precision instruments, profile projectors, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  8. Materials and Thermal Science: Apply advanced knowledge regarding metallurgical materials, specialty steel alloys, hardness parameters, heat treatments, surface coatings, and tribology to extend the operational life cycle of high-impact tools.
  9. Operational Excellence & PCM: Schedule, document, and register operational maintenance steps within the CMMS/SAP system. Enforce a highly organized workflow based on Lean/WCM principles, standardized repair protocols, and strict 5S/6S cell disciplines.
  10. EHS Compliance: Guarantee that all workshop and toolroom activities comply with local environmental regulations, international safety protocols (ISO 13849), and Indian Standard (BIS/NR-12 equivalents), strictly using required PPE and respecting Safety Golden Rules.
REQUIREMENTS AND HARD & SOFT SKILLS
  • Education: Completed Technical Course or Diploma in Toolmaking, Precision Machining, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical fields.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in fine mechanics, bench adjustment, fits and clear tolerances, and CNC/conventional machine setups. Total familiarity with cross-functional plant interfaces (Assembly, Stator, Machining, and Stamping tool specifications).
  • Soft Skills: Extreme attention to precision details, sharp problem-solving agility for emergency lines, and a resilient mindset to work under high-volume operational targets.
Additional Information
  • Languages: Intermediate English (essential for technical documentation reading and tooling manual compliance).
  • Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years in industrial tool and die shops, precision machining cells, or heavy press environments.
  • Industrial areas/sector: Tool and Die Shops preferred, High-Precision Machinery Manufacturing, Compressors / HVAC, Powertrain Manufacturing, or High-Volume Automotive Tier 1.
