Job summary

KBR Manufaturing in Pune is seeking a Tool Room Maintenance Technician with 2–4 years of hands-on experience in press tool maintenance. You will perform preventive and breakdown maintenance on dies and punches, inspect tooling during production trials, and diagnose wear, misalignment, burrs, cracks, and other issues to ensure tooling availability.

Responsibilities

  • Attend tool breakdowns to minimize downtime during production.
  • Coordinate with Production and Quality teams during trials and corrective actions.
  • Support tool trials and tooling improvement activities.
  • Maintain maintenance history and safety compliance per 5S standards.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Tool Room Maintenance Technician with 2 - 4 years of relevant experience in press tool maintenance, preferably from an automotive, auto-component, or engineering manufacturing environment. The candidate will be responsible for preventive and breakdown maintenance of press tools, dies, punches, and related tooling to ensure tool availability, reliability, and minimum production downtime.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of press tools, dies, punches, and related tooling.
  2. Inspect press tools before and after production trials and identify potential tooling issues.
  3. Diagnose and rectify problems such as:
    • Punch and die wear
    • Burr formation
    • Tool misalignment
    • Cracks and damages
    • Spring failure
    • Guide pin/bush wear
    • Stripper and lifter problems
  4. Carry out tool correction, grinding, fitting, polishing, and minor modifications as required.
  5. Maintain proper tool clearance and dimensional accuracy as per drawing and process requirements.
  6. Inspect, repair, and replace worn-out components such as punches, dies, springs, guide pillars, bushes, and fasteners.
  7. Attend tool breakdowns during production and restore the tool within the required time to minimize production downtime.
  8. Coordinate with Production and Quality teams during tool trials, troubleshooting, and corrective actions.
  9. Support new tool trials, tool corrections, and tooling improvement activities.
  10. Maintain tool maintenance history, breakdown records, preventive maintenance records, and correction reports.
  11. Ensure proper identification, handling, storage, and preservation of press tools.
  12. Follow the preventive maintenance schedule and complete assigned jobs within the planned timeline.
  13. Monitor tool condition and recommend timely replacement of worn components.
  14. Suggest improvements to increase tool life and reduce breakdown frequency and maintenance costs.
  15. Maintain proper housekeeping and follow 5S standards in the tool room.
  16. Follow all prescribed safety procedures and company policies while performing maintenance activities.
Required Skills
  • Hands-on knowledge of press tools, dies, punches, and tooling components.
  • Practical experience in press tool maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of tool fitting, grinding, polishing, and minor modifications.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of tool clearance, alignment, and dimensional inspection.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to urgent production breakdowns.
  • Good coordination with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams.
  • Knowledge of 5S and workplace safety practices.
Preferred Experience
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in press tool maintenance.
  • Experience in automotive, auto-component, sheet metal, stamping, or engineering manufacturing will be preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with progressive dies, press tools, punches, and dies will be an added advantage.
