Job summary

Lal Sweets Pvt Ltd, based in Bengaluru, is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Manager with 6–8 years in FMCG food manufacturing. You will own factory engineering, maintenance operations, and plant utilities, leading a technical team to maximize OEE and minimize downtime, while ensuring food safety and GMP compliance.

Responsibilities include preventive and predictive maintenance planning, breakdown RCA, spare parts management, budgeting, vendor oversight, and adherence to FSSAI, GMP/GHP and safety

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate with relevant Engineering discipline (Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics).
  • Postgraduate degree preferred in Engineering Management/Operations/Safety.
  • Experience in FMCG/food manufacturing is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute preventive, predictive and autonomous maintenance to ensure high equipment reliability.
  • Lead breakdown analysis and RCA with CAPA actions.
  • Oversee plant utilities, including boilers, chillers, compressors, HVAC, DG sets, and water purification.
  • Supervise maintenance staff across shifts and drive safety culture.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and maintenance budget; control costs.
  • Coordinate with vendors/contractors and ensure timely procurement of spares.
  • Ensure compliance with FSSAI, GMP/GHP, 5S and safety norms.
  • Support Capex projects, installation and commissioning of new equipment.

Our product portfolio encompasses packaged traditional Indian mithai, savouries/namkeen, and premium bakery products. As part of our next growth phase, the company is actively expanding into healthy snacking, instant culinary mixes, and frozen ready-to-eat food solutions.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on, and results-oriented Maintenance Manager with 6 to 8 years of manufacturing experience to take end-to-end ownership of factory engineering, maintenance operations, and plant utilities. The Maintenance Manager will lead a team of technical staff, drive preventive and autonomous maintenance, maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), minimize downtime, and ensure complete compliance with food safety, statutory, and EHS standards in a fast-paced food production environment.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Formulate, execute, and monitor comprehensive preventive, predictive, and autonomous maintenance schedules for all processing, baking, cooking, and high-speed packaging machinery to ensure high reliability and zero unplanned stoppages.
  • Breakdown Management & RCA: Lead rapid response teams during machine breakdowns, perform rigorous troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues, and drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) with robust Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Plant Utilities & Facilities Operations: Oversee the 24/7 reliability and efficient operation of plant utilities, including steam boilers, air compressors, industrial refrigeration/chillers, HVAC systems, DG sets, RO water purification plants, and electrical distribution panels.
  • Team Leadership & Capability Building: Directly supervise, schedule, and upskill maintenance technicians, electricians, and shift mechanics. Foster a disciplined culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Spare Parts Management & Inventory Control: Maintain optimal inventory levels of critical machine spares, tools, and consumables. Establish reorder levels, eliminate stock-outs for critical components, and control inventory carrying costs.
  • Maintenance Budgeting & Cost Optimization: Plan and control the annual maintenance budget (Opex and minor Capex). Identify and implement cost-reduction initiatives through energy conservation, waste reduction, and asset life extension.
  • Vendor & Contractor Management: Manage OEM vendors, Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC), and external service contractors. Supervise third-party technical work and ensure prompt procurement of certified food-grade spare parts and lubricants.
  • Safety, Hygiene & Statutory Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities adhere strictly to FSSAI standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Hygiene Practices (GHP), Factory Safety norms, 5S, Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), and electrical safety protocols.
  • Capex, Installation & Commissioning: Support engineering projects, line extensions, layout modifications, and the testing, installation, and commissioning of new food processing and packaging machinery.
Education Qualifications

Undergraduate (UG): B.E. / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.

Postgraduate (PG): M.Tech / Post-Graduate Diploma in Engineering Management, Operations, or Industrial Safety (Preferred, not mandatory).

Preferred Candidate Profile & Qualifications
  • Experience: 6 to 8 years of proven hands-on maintenance experience in FMCG, food processing, bakery, confectionery, dairy, snacks, or high-speed consumer goods manufacturing plants.
  • Technical Expertise: Sound knowledge of food processing machinery (ovens, fryers, planetary mixers, form-fill-seal packaging machines, flow wrappers, metal detectors, vacuum packaging) and plant utilities (boilers, chillers, air compressors, DG sets).
  • Engineering Competencies: Strong troubleshooting abilities across mechanical drives, electrical circuits, PLCs, pneumatics, hydraulics, and instrumentation.
  • Operational Discipline: In-depth understanding of TPM principles, OEE tracking, MTTR, MTBF, Root Cause Analysis (5-Why, Fishbone), and preventive maintenance software/CMMS.
  • Regulatory & Quality Standards: Well-versed with FSSAI regulations, GMP/GHP hygiene standards, HACCP requirements, and factory statutory safety norms.
  • Leadership & Communication: Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams across multiple shifts, coordinate cross-functionally with Production and Quality teams, and handle vendor negotiations effectively.
