Job summary

Indi Coconut is seeking a dynamic Head of Engineering & Maintenance for its manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. You will lead the entire engineering and maintenance function, develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, and ensure high equipment availability and safety across process lines.

The role requires 5+ years in a leadership capacity, hands-on experience with food processing equipment, and strong knowledge of GMP and food safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role managing plant engineering and maintenance.
  • Strong hands-on experience with food processing equipment, process utilities, and automated production systems.
  • Knowledge of FSSC 22000, BRCGS, HACCP, GMP, and food safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Engineering & Maintenance function for the manufacturing plant.
  • Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance strategies.
  • Ensure reliable operation of dryers, UHT systems, aseptic filling lines, evaporators, boilers, compressors, pumps, conveyors, and other process equipment.
  • Lead mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, automation, and utilities maintenance activities.
  • Plan and execute plant shutdowns, preventive maintenance, overhauls, and major repair activities with minimum production disruption.
  • Ensure reliability and availability of boilers, steam systems, chillers, cooling towers, RO, STP, ETP, HT/LT electrical systems, and other utilities.
  • Implement condition monitoring and predictive maintenance such as vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis.
  • Drive RCA, MTBF, MTTR, OEE, and equipment reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Lead engineering projects, CAPEX, equipment installation, commissioning, modification, and improvement projects.
  • Manage spares inventory, maintenance budgets, contractors, and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with plant safety, statutory requirements, food safety, and engineering standards.
  • Support and ensure compliance with FSSC 22000, BRCGS, HACCP, GMP, and other food safety requirements.
  • Drive energy efficiency, utility cost reduction, continuous improvement, and maintenance cost optimization.
  • Develop and mentor the Engineering & Maintenance team, establish KPIs, and build a reliability-focused culture.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, dashboards, KPIs, and management reports.

Preferred candidate profile
  • 1218 years of overall experience in Engineering & Maintenance, preferably in Food Processing / Beverage / Dairy / FMCG manufacturing.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role managing plant engineering and maintenance functions.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong hands-on experience with food processing equipment, process utilities, and automated production systems.
  • Proven experience in UHT, aseptic filling, CIP systems, evaporators, dryers, boilers, compressors, chillers, pumps, and utility systems will be highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Electrical systems, HT/LT panels, motors, drives, transformers, instrumentation, PLC/SCADA, sensors, and automation.
  • Experience in preventive, predictive, condition-based and reliability-centred maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of RCA, FMEA, RCM, TPM, CMMS, MTBF, MTTR and OEE.
  • Experience in CAPEX planning, project execution, commissioning, shutdown management, and vendor management.
  • Knowledge of FSSC 22000, BRCGS, HACCP, GMP, and food safety requirements.
  • Strong leadership, people management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work closely with Production, Quality, Food Safety, EHS, and Plant Leadership teams.
  • Strong ownership, execution orientation, communication skills, and a data-driven approach to plant reliability and performance.
  • Candidates who have worked in a high-speed, automated food processing environment will be preferred.
