We are seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer to join our production support team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring high availability, integrity, and performance across mission-critical banking, financial services, and payment processing applications.
You will investigate transaction drops, trace end-to-end payment flows, analyze application logs in Linux environments, and validate core accounting and transaction data in relational databases. A solid foundation in BFSI domain workflows and strong Linux command-line diagnostic capabilities are essential to succeed in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Incident Triage & Resolution: Provide L2/L3 support for core banking, payment gateway, clearing/settlement, or trade-processing systems, addressing system alerts and user-reported incidents within strict SLAs.
- Linux-Based Troubleshooting: Connect to application servers to inspect runtime logs, tail active transactions, monitor batch processes, and identify bottlenecks or exceptions using standard command-line utilities.
- Transaction & Data Reconciliation: Investigate stuck or failed financial transactions (e.g., NEFT/RTGS, IMPS, SWIFT, card settlements, ACH), run SQL queries to verify ledger balances and transaction statuses, and execute authorized business data fixes.
- Batch & End-of-Day (EOD) Operations: Monitor scheduled financial batch jobs, end-of-day/beginning-of-day processing, and automated file transfers (SFTP/Connect:Direct); perform first-level recovery on failed batch runs.
- Application Service Operations: Handle application restarts, smoke-testing post-maintenance windows, deployment verification, and config updates on Linux-hosted application servers.
- Escalations & Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Coordinate closely with development teams, payment aggregators, network partners, and business operations to document detailed technical findings and contribute to post-incident RCA reviews.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 3 to 6 years of dedicated Production Application Support experience.
- Domain Mandate: Proven, hands-on experience in BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, or Fintech/Payment Processing systems). Familiarity with financial messaging formats (ISO 8583, ISO 20022, or SWIFT MT/MX) or payment rails is required.
- Linux for Application Support:
- Proficiency using commands like grep, awk, sed, tail, find, curl, and jq for deep log analysis and transaction tracing.
- Practical ability to check application processes and resource utilization using ps, top, netstat/ss, and df.
- Competence in managing application configuration files and analyzing cron schedules.
- Database & SQL: Strong ability to write complex queries (SELECT, multi-table JOINs, aggregate functions) on Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL to audit transaction states and resolve data discrepancies.
- Interface & Protocol Knowledge: Solid understanding of API integrations (REST, SOAP), message payloads (JSON, XML), secure file transfers (SFTP), and basic connectivity verification.
- Process Discipline: Working familiarity with ITIL Incident, Problem, and Change Management frameworks (ServiceNow, Jira).
