Job summary

Ethos is a leading life insurance technology company redefining underwriting and making life coverage accessible through a streamlined online process. We are seeking a life insurance underwriter with 3+ years of experience to join a growing team on the ground floor of our insurtech startup.

You will evaluate risks, review medical history and financial background, and communicate decisions clearly while collaborating to improve underwriting processes.

Qualifications

• 4 year degree preferred.
• Knowledge of risk selection (medical, non-medical, financial).
• Ability to think critically and solve independently.
• Positive, inclusive, agile and collaborative mindset.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Industry designations such as LOMA, ALMI, FMLI, ALU, FALU in progress or completed.

• Understand underwriting policies, guidelines, practices and procedures.
• Determine whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazard, and financial background.
• Communicate effectively both written and verbally to explain underwriting decisions.
• Influence and champion changes to improve processes while maintaining mortality expectations; gather information for decision making.
• Ability to independently work assigned requests with minimal direction.
• Comfortable with ambiguity.

• Understand underwriting policies, guidelines, practices and procedures
• Determine whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazard, and financial background
• Communicate effectively both written and verbally to explain underwriting decisions
• Influence and champion changes to improve processes while maintaining mortality expectations Work efficiently to gather information necessary for decision making

Qualifications and Skills:
