Job Summary
The Legal Credit Officer is responsible for conducting legal due diligence on loan proposals, verifying legal documents, assessing legal risks, and ensuring that all lending activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The role supports the credit approval process by providing legal opinions and safeguarding the organization's interests.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and verify legal documents submitted with loan applications.
- Conduct legal due diligence for secured lending.
- Examine property title documents, ownership records, encumbrance certificates, and other collateral-related documents.
- Identify legal risks associated with credit proposals and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures.
- Prepare legal opinions and submit reports to the credit approval team.
- Drafting of MODT/ Discharge deed and Verification of Draft Sale Agreement / Sale Deed.
- Coordinate with advocates, valuers, registration authorities, and external legal consultants when required.
- Ensure proper documentation before loan disbursement.
- Monitor compliance with banking, financial, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of legal documents and case files.
- Stay updated on changes in relevant laws, regulations, and industry practices.
Preferred candidate profile
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in law (LL.B.) or an equivalent legal qualification.
- Additional certifications in banking, finance, or credit management are an advantage.
Experience
- 3 – 5 years of experience in legal documentation, banking / Housing Finance Companies. or credit operations.
- Experience in property verification and loan documentation is preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Property laws, Banking laws, and contract law.
- Understanding of credit appraisal and loan documentation.
