Area Legal Manager

Job summary

Skillventory is seeking a seasoned legal professional to lead the area legal team and ensure timely completion of activities across lending and security documentation. You will provide legal opinions and advisory to business, credit, and operations teams, perform title scrutiny, due diligence, and review mortgage deeds and collateral docs, while monitoring compliance with property and banking laws.

Experience in HL/LAP, NBFCs, and team management is preferred; strong knowledge of registration

Qualifications

• LLB/LLM from a recognized university.
• 58 years of relevant experience in non-litigation/business legal functions.
• Prior experience with Bank/NBFC/HFC, preferably in HL/LAP, mortgage or secured lending.
• Strong experience in title verification, legal opinion, due diligence and mortgage documentation.
• Should have experience in team handling/people management.
• Good knowledge of property laws, Registration Act, mortgage laws and banking/NBFC legal processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the area legal team, ensuring timely completion of legal activities.
• Provide legal opinions and advisory to business, credit and operations teams on various matters.
• Conduct and review title scrutiny, title verification and legal due diligence for HL/LAP and other secured lending cases.
• Review Search Reports, Encumbrance Certificates (EC), title documents and property-related documents.
• Review and approve mortgage deeds, agreements, collateral and other security documentation.
• Identify legal risks in lending proposals and provide practical solutions to business teams.
• Ensure proper PDD/documentation compliance and closure of legal deficiencies.
• Coordinate with external legal vendors, advocates and empanelled lawyers.
• Handle legal audits, compliance reviews and MIS reporting for the assigned area.
• Support branches/business teams in resolving legal and documentation-related issues.
• Ensure adherence to applicable property laws, Registration Act, mortgage laws and banking/NBFC legal processes.
• Conduct periodic training/awareness sessions for business and legal teams on legal and documentation requirements.
• Monitor team performance, allocate cases and ensure adherence to TAT and quality standards.
