Job summary

Ascendion is seeking an experienced Lead UX Designer to guide the design of next-generation embedded and connected product experiences. This player-coach role balances UX strategy, hands-on design, client engagement, and team leadership across hardware and software ecosystems.

You will own the UX workstream, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure high-quality design delivery from discovery to implementation for complex products.

Qualifications

• 10-15 years of UX Design experience with enterprise product design leadership.
• Strong hands-on UX design skills with Figma, interaction design, prototyping and visual communication.
• Experience designing embedded products (hardware/firmware) and related ecosystems.
• Proven experience leading UX teams while contributing to design execution.
• Skilled in presenting and defending design decisions to clients and stakeholders.
• Collaborates with Product, Engineering, Firmware, QA, and Business stakeholders.
• Deep understanding of usability principles, IA, and accessibility.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

About the Role

What You’ll Do

UX Leadership

• Lead and mentor a team of UX designers throughout the product lifecycle.
• Establish design direction and ensure consistency and quality across all deliverables.
• Review work, provide feedback, and coach designers to deliver high‑quality user experiences.
• Remove delivery blockers and drive successful execution.

Product & Experience Design

• Lead the end‑to‑end UX process from discovery through detailed interaction design.
• Create user journeys, workflows, interaction models, wireframes, prototypes, and high‑fidelity designs.
• Design intuitive experiences across embedded devices, firmware interfaces, and companion applications.
• Balance business goals, technical constraints, and user needs to deliver practical design solutions.

Embedded Product Design

• Design experiences for products that combine hardware, firmware, and software.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Firmware, Software Engineering, and Industrial Design teams.
• Understand platform limitations and translate them into intuitive user experiences.
• Design for constrained interfaces, multi‑device ecosystems, and connected experiences.

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Serve as the primary UX representative for the client.
• Lead design discussions, workshops, and reviews with business and technical stakeholders.
• Present design recommendations and influence product direction.
• Build strong client relationships through proactive communication and delivery excellence.

Delivery & Strategy

• Drive UX planning, prioritization, and execution.
• Work with Product Managers and Engineering to manage dependencies and delivery timelines.
• Translate business objectives into actionable UX strategies.
• Ensure design decisions align with long‑term product vision.

What You’ll Bring

Mandatory

• 10-15 years of UX Design experience, with significant experience leading enterprise product design initiatives.
• Strong hands‑on UX design skills with expertise in Figma, interaction design, prototyping, and visual communication.
• Experience designing embedded products, including firmware, kiosks, printers, POS systems or other hardware/software ecosystems.
• Proven experience leading UX teams while remaining actively involved in design execution.
• Strong client‑facing experience with the ability to confidently present and defend design decisions.
• Experience collaborating with Product Management, Engineering, Firmware, QA, and Business stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of usability principles, interaction design, information architecture, and accessibility.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred

• Experience working in enterprise or B2B product environments.
• Experience with AI‑enabled or intelligent product experiences.
• Experience building scalable design systems for embedded or enterprise products.
• Consulting or digital transformation experience.
