Job description

Responsibilities

• Manage the buying process for a given set of goods, applying sourcing policy and interfacing between supplier and entity regarding specifications and budgets.
• Understand market dynamics and support strategies for assigned commodities, proactively driving initiatives to meet sourcing objectives.
• Support commodity buys; assess supplier capabilities and make recommendations on purchases with new vendor developments.
• Act as functional expert for the development and negotiation of purchasing contracts (e.g., partnering, strategic alliances, technology transfers), providing contracting expertise across the organization.
• Take initiatives and propose vendor development, cost reductions, lead‑time reduction, lean initiatives.
• Manage supplier relationships in the best interest of the company; work across factory teams and with Engineering, Shop, MMI, Process specialists, Quality, Purchase and Logistics teams for timely supplies.
• Prepare RFQs based on all technical information, perform cost estimation, quotation tabulation, and budgetary cost consumption data preparation.
• Lead negotiation with selected vendors, ensuring favorable pricing and terms as per business need.
• Place orders with suitable vendors, considering cost, supplier qualification, technical competency, budget and delivery.
• Monitor supplier performance, drive improvement plans and maintain strong relationships to diversify the supply base.
• Assess and mitigate supplier risks such as supply chain disruptions or quality issues.
• Align KPIs and strategize goals in accordance with function KPIs (spend, payment terms, deflation, on‑time delivery, PR to PO cycle).
• Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to define sourcing requirements, ensuring alignment with operational needs.
• Process and procurement knowledge: casting, rotor forging, fabrication components, blades, commodity management, insourcing fabrication.
• Develop and implement procurement strategies, including sourcing, vendor selection, and contract negotiation for new supplier development drives.
• Identify potential suppliers in India and low‑cost countries, drive new supplier development and qualification initiatives (localization initiatives, supplier onboarding, product qualification process).
• Coordinate with key commodity leaders for global benchmarking and develop critical components in India.
• Stakeholder networking for effective problem solving, provide 100% material visibility and tracking across the organization.
• Lead or participate in supplier performance improvement/rating programs; work with suppliers and internal functions to create an idea pool and drive action plans for yearly deflation and lead‑time reduction targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (preferably Master of Engineering) with good business acumen and holistic understanding of cross‑functional work.
• 10‑15 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, project management or understanding of various manufacturing processes.
• Basic commercial awareness and knowledge of order management and scheduling.
• Experience in turbine & generator manufacturing industries; knowledge of turbine & generator parts is preferable.
• Pro‑active, problem‑solving attitude, networking and communication skills.
• Organizational skills, including prioritization and resource deployment.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
• Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions.
• Global sourcing experience preferable.
