Purpose of the Role

Design, develop, and improve software using engineering methodologies to provide business, platform, and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues.

Lead Software Engineer – Network Platform & SRE Responsibilities

Lead the evolution of the digital landscape by harnessing cutting‑edge technology, delivering innovative solutions, and driving excellence.

• Design, build, and operate the OSS infrastructure and toolchain across cloud and on‑prem environments for the Barclays Global Network.
• Own containerisation, Kubernetes, and high‑level language programming (Python, Java, Golang, NetDevOps).
• Lead IaC, CI/CD pipelines, and SRE principles for data, containerisation, and orchestration.
• Engineer middleware technologies (Kafka, API gateways, etc.) and data engineering tools/frameworks (Apache Spark, Airflow, Flink, Hadoop).
• Build ELT pipelines and cloud/storage integrations (Data Lake/warehouse integrations with Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
• Define KPIs using SLI/SLO with open‑source tooling (ELK, Prometheus).
• Contribute to risk and controls, change and transformation, and strategic thinking for business impact.

• Programming expertise in Python, Java, Golang, or NetDevOps automation.
• Hands‑on experience with IaC, Cloud Platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and SRE principles.
• Experience with middleware technologies (Kafka, API gateways) and data engineering tools such as Apache Spark, Airflow, Flink, Hadoop.
• Knowledge of DevOps tooling: GitOps, CI/CD, configuration management, Jenkins, source control.
• Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure services: compute, storage, networking, hybrid connectivity, monitoring/logging, security, IAM.
• Experience defining and measuring operational KPIs (SLI/SLO) with ELK, Prometheus, and related telemetry.
