Purpose of the role: To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high‑quality software solutions using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks and tools.
• Ensuring code is scalable, maintainable and optimised for performance.
• Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration.
• Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Staying informed of industry technology trends and actively contributing to the organisation’s technology communities to foster technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability and reliability.

Software Engineer (IS) – Barclays

You will spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. Your role will support the successful delivery of location strategy projects to plan, budget and governance standards, ensuring unparalleled customer experiences.

Required Experience and Skills

• Strong experience with Java, Spring, Kafka and microservice design.
• Good understanding of AWS cloud services and OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Hands‑on experience with DevOps tooling and CI/CD automation.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational data modelling.
• Exposure to event‑driven patterns or API platforms (Kafka preferred).
• Experience in writing IaC (Terraform or CloudFormation preferred).
• Automation testing of the framework.
• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to varied audiences.
