Operational Support Systems (OSS) Platform Engineering is a new team within the newly formed Network OSS & Tools functional unit in the Network Product domain at Barclays. The OSS Platform Engineering team is responsible for the design, build and run of the underlying OSS infrastructure and toolchain across cloud and on‑prem that the core systems and tools required to run the Barclays Global Network reside on.
Skills
- Strong Linux proficiency and expertise with containerisation and Kubernetes, together with programming expertise in one of the high‑level languages such as Python, Java, Golang and NetDevOps automation.
- Hands‑on experience with IaC, cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines for data, containerisation & orchestration and SRE principles.
- Strong knowledge and demonstrable hands‑on experience with middleware technologies (Kafka, API gateways, etc.) and data‑engineering tools/frameworks such as Apache Spark, Airflow, Flink and the Hadoop ecosystem.
Some Other Highly Valued Skills Include
- Expertise building ELT pipelines and cloud/storage integrations – data lake/warehouse integrations (Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.).
- Solid understanding of DevOps tooling, GitOps, CI/CD, config management, Jenkins, build pipelines and source control systems; working knowledge of cloud infrastructure services: compute, storage, networking, hybrid connectivity, monitoring/logging, security and IAM.
- SRE experience and expertise building and defining KPIs (SLI/SLOs) using open‑source tooling such as ELK, Prometheus and other instrumentation, telemetry and log analytics.
