Job summary

Cyient in Pune, India seeks a Lead Software Engineer – PLC to drive end-to-end automation projects. You will analyze requirements, design architecture, implement PLC logic, and support commissioning across multiple platforms including Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff, and CODESYS.

You will lead a small-to-mid engineering team, review code, enforce standards, mentor staff, and coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation teams to ensure robust, safe, and scalable

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/ Electronics/ Instrumentation/ Mechatronics.
• 8–12 years in industrial automation/control systems.
• Hands-on PLC programming experience.
• Leadership and mentoring of a small-to-mid engineering team.
• Strong problem-solving under commissioning/field pressure.
• Proficiency in HMI/SCADA development and integration.
• Knowledge of electrical schematics, P&IDs, I/O sizing, and panel design.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end PLC software development, including requirements, architecture, coding, testing, and commissioning support.
• Design and review control logic across Siemens, Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley, Schneider, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff, or CODESYS platforms.
• Design and integrate HMI/SCADA applications.
• Define and implement industrial interfaces: Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, IO-Link, CAN.
• Prepare FDS, SDDs, I/O lists, FAT/SAT test protocols, and commissioning reports.
• Lead FAT/SAT activities, on-site commissioning, and field issue escalation.
• Ensure compliance with functional safety standards and regulations.
• Mentor and guide PLC/automation engineers; enforce coding standards; drive reusable libraries.
• Estimate effort, plan work packages, track progress, and report to stakeholders.
• Interface with electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation teams to align software with system design.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end development of PLC software: requirement analysis, architecture, logic design, coding, simulation, testing, and commissioning support.
• Develop and review control logic using languages (Ladder Diagram, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text, SFC) on platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff, or CODESYS.
• Design and integrate HMI/SCADA applications.
• Define and implement industrial communication interfaces: Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, IO-Link, CAN.
• Prepare and review engineering documentation: functional design specifications (FDS), software design documents, I/O lists, test protocols (FAT/SAT), and commissioning reports.
• Lead FAT/SAT activities, on-site commissioning, and troubleshooting; provide escalation-level support for field issues.
• Ensure compliance with functional safety standards and relevant industry regulations.
• Mentor and technically guide a team of PLC/automation engineers; conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and drive reusable software libraries.
• Estimate effort, plan software work packages, track progress, and report to all stakeholders.
• Interface with electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation teams to align control software with the overall system design.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong hands-on expertise in PLC programming.
• Proficiency in HMI/SCADA development and integration.
• Solid understanding of industrial networks and fieldbus protocols (Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA).
• Experience with servo/motion control, VFDs, drives, robotics interfacing, and safety PLCs.
• Knowledge of electrical schematics, P&IDs, I/O sizing, and panel design fundamentals.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor a small-to-mid-sized engineering team.
• Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills, especially under commissioning/field pressure.
• Effective communication with customers, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Ownership mindset with strong planning, estimation, and delivery discipline.

Qualifications
