Role
Lead Engineer- Brake and Accelerator Pedals (Passenger Car)
- You will shape the future BMW vehicles dynamics by bringing brake systems to life through precise CAD modelling, Concept and engineering execution.
- You will contribute to the design & development of Brake Pedal and Accelerator Pedals.
- Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for brake system components and sub-systems.
- Support concept development, design optimization, prototype builds, validation, and production implementation activities.
- Ensure compliance with performance, durability, safety, cost, weight, and manufacturing requirements throughout the product development lifecycle.
What should you bring along
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related field.
- 8-12 years of experience in Brake Pedal and Accelerator Pedal design and development for passenger vehicles. ?
- Knowledge of automotive design standards, engineering release processes, and product development methodologies.
- Experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers in wheel product development.
- Proactive, teamwork-oriented mindset with the ability to operate in a matrix environment.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in English, additional German language skills are an advantage.
Must have technical skill
- Design and development of brake pedal assemblies, pedal boxes, pedal arms, pedal brackets, pedal pads, pivot mechanisms, return springs, and stop systems.
- Strong understanding of brake pedal ratio, pedal effort, pedal travel, brake feel characteristics, and vehicle performance requirements.
- Knowledge of pedal interfaces with brake booster, master cylinder, Integrated Brake Control (IBC), and Brake-by-Wire systems.
- Experience in crash-safe pedal design and driver injury mitigation requirements.
- Understanding of pedal NVH, durability, fatigue, and stiffness requirements.
- Design and development of electronic accelerator pedal modules and associated mounting systems.
- Knowledge of Accelerator Pedal Position Sensors (APPS), Hall-effect sensors, redundant sensor architectures, and signal reliability requirements.
- Understanding of accelerator pedal force curves, return mechanisms, travel characteristics, and ergonomic performance.
- Experience with accelerator pedal integration for ICE, Hybrid, and Electric Vehicles.
- Knowledge of throttle control interfaces and functional safety considerations.
- Expertise in driver package studies and ergonomic assessments.
- Understanding of sitting reference point (SgRP), heel point, pedal spacing, pedal positioning, foot clearance, and operational comfort requirements.
- Experience in package optimization considering steering column, dashboard, HVAC, body structure, and safety system interfaces.
- Support digital mock-up reviews and vehicle integration activities.
- Develop detailed CAD models, assemblies, drafting, and release documentation.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, interface management, and kinematic assessments.
- Create and maintain component specifications, engineering drawings, and design records.
- Conduct design reviews and technical feasibility assessments.
- Support component-level and vehicle-level validation activities.
- Knowledge of durability, fatigue, climate, vibration, abuse load, corrosion, and lifecycle testing requirements.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including stamping, forging, machining, welding, tube forming, plastic injection molding, and assembly operations.
- Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).

- CATIA V5/V6 Part Design, Assembly Design, GSD, and Drafting.
- Teamcenter, ENOVIA, or equivalent PLM systems.
- GD&T and Tolerance Stack-up Analysis.
- Kinematic and Motion Analysis.
- DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP, PPAP methodologies.
- Functional Safety (ISO 26262) awareness.
- Knowledge of Brake-by-Wire systems and Integrated Brake Controls.
- Experience in accelerator sensor integration and electronic pedal systems.
- Knowledge of FMVSS, ECE, AIS, and global vehicle safety regulations.
- Root Cause Analysis, 8D, Six Sigma, and Problem-Solving tools.
- EV and Hybrid Vehicle pedal system development experience.
- Cost Optimization and Value Engineering.
