Role
Lead Engineer- Brake Lines (Passenger Car)
- You will shape the future BMW vehicles dynamics by bringing brake systems to life through precise CAD modelling, Concept and engineering execution.
- You will contribute to the design & development of advanced brake systems including brake lines, and wheel-end integration components.
- Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for brake system components and sub-systems.
- Support concept development, design optimization, prototype builds, validation, and production implementation activities.
- Ensure compliance with performance, durability, safety, cost, weight, and manufacturing requirements throughout the product development lifecycle.
What should you bring along
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 8-12 years of experience in automotive brake system development with focus on Brake Lines / Hydraulic Brake Pipes. ?
- Knowledge of automotive design standards, engineering release processes, and product development methodologies.
- Experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers in wheel product development.
- Proactive, teamwork-oriented mindset with the ability to operate in a matrix environment.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in English, additional German language skills are an advantage.
Must have technical skill
- Experience in Design and development of rigid brake pipes, hydraulic brake lines, tube assemblies, connectors, unions, T-connectors, junction blocks, clips, brackets, and mounting systems.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic brake circuit architecture including front-rear split, diagonal split, ABS/ESC integration, and hydraulic control unit interfaces.
- Expertise in brake line routing considering vehicle packaging, ground clearance, thermal protection, underbody architecture, suspension movement, and crash requirements.
- Knowledge of brake line interfaces with master cylinder, brake booster, ABS/ESC module, brake hoses, calipers, and rear brake assemblies.
- Understanding of hydraulic pressure requirements, pressure loss considerations, and system sealing requirements.
- Knowledge of steel brake tubing, coated steel lines, copper-nickel alloys, tube bending processes, flaring processes, and hydraulic fittings.
- Experience with tube manufacturing, bending, end forming, assembly processes, and corrosion protection technologies.
- Knowledge of brake line durability, vibration, pressure pulse, corrosion, thermal exposure, stone-chip, and environmental validation requirements.
- Ensure brake system compliance with vehicle safety, regulatory, and homologation requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers for design development, validation, and industrialization activities.
- Review supplier designs, technical deliverables, and manufacturing feasibility studies.
- Drive value engineering, cost optimization, and supplier development initiatives.
- Manage engineering changes through ECR/ECO processes.
Good to have Technical skills
- CATIA V5 Part Design, Assembly Design, Generative Shape Design (GSD), and Drafting expertise.
- Exposure to supplier management, technical reviews, and global vehicle platform programs.
- Passenger Car Brake System Design & Development (Hydraulic Brake Systems)
- GD&T and Tolerance Stack-up Analysis
- DFMEA / DVP/CATIA V5
- Exposure to Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Cost Optimization and Value Engineering.
- Experience with EV and Hybrid Vehicle Brake Systems.
- Knowledge of FMVSS, ECE, AIS, and global braking regulations.
