Job description

Position: Lead Hardware Electronics Engineer (Medical Device)
Experience: 8 + years
Location: Magarpatta, Pune
Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Electronics Hardware Engineer to spearhead the complete hardware lifecycle of our next-generation medical devices. In this role, you will own the entire electronics pipeline from initial concept architecture and schematic capture through multi-layer PCB layout, safety-critical testing, regulatory compliance, and factory mass production.

You will bridge the gap between physical hardware design, embedded firmware teams, and mechanical housing constraints, ensuring our devices meet the highest standards of reliability, performance, and life-saving safety.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Leadership & Project Driving
  • Team Guidance & Mentorship: Provide active technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level electronics hardware engineers, conducting constructive schematic/layout design reviews to upskill the team.
  • Task Assignment & Resource Planning: Break down complex hardware architectures into actionable design work packages; assign and track layout, simulation, and prototyping tasks based on team skill sets and deadlines.
  • Project Delivery Ownership: Act as the primary technical driver for the electronics pipeline, proactively managing milestones, mitigating design delays, and ensuring the engineering team stays aligned with the overall product timeline.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the hardware engineering focal point to bridge design communication between Embedded Firmware, Mechanical Engineering, Systems, and Project Management teams.
  • Vendor & Manufacturer Liaison: Drive relationships with external PCB fabrication shops, component distributors, and testing labs (EMC/Safety) to resolve technical bottlenecks during prototyping and production.
2. Schematic Design & Hardware Architecture
  • Circuit Design: Architect and design low-noise analog front-ends, high-precision sensor interfaces, isolation barriers, and high-speed microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-M/A).
  • Power Management: Design high-efficiency power distribution networks (PDNs), switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), low-dropout regulators (LDOs), and battery-operated battery management systems (BMS), wearable device with coin cell battery, rechargeable battery.
  • Component Selection: Source components based on strict criteria for longevity, environmental tolerances, medical grade ratings, and supply chain security.
3. High-Density PCB Layout Design
  • Layout Ownership: Drive high-density multi-layer PCB layout strategies (4 to 12+ layers) utilizing industry-standard ECAD tools (Altium Designer preferred).
  • Signal & Power Integrity: Execute layout rules for controlled impedance, high-speed differential pairs (USB, SPI, RF, Ethernet), ground plane segregation, and low-latency thermal dissipation.
  • ECAD-MCAD Collaboration: Interface closely with mechanical teams to ensure optimal PCB form factors, connector placements, and zero-clearance fitment inside compact device enclosures.
3. Medical Regulatory & Compliance (V-Model Lifecycle)
  • IEC 60601-1 Mastery: Architect hardware explicitly to clear IEC 60601-1 (Electrical Safety, including 2x MOPP/MOOP patient insulation) and IEC 60601-1-2 (Electromagnetic Compatibility / EMC).
  • 14971 Risk Controls: Active technical contributor to hardware DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to eliminate single points of failure.
  • Traceability Matrix: Build and maintain continuous engineering documentation linking hardware design requirements directly to hardware verification tests (HVT).
4. Full Product Lifecycle & NPI Leadership
  • Prototype Bring-Up: Lead the physical board bring-up, debugging component faults using high-speed oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers.
  • DFX Engineering: Implement strict Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) standards to maximize manufacturing yield and minimize defect rates.
  • Factory Handoff: Generate production-ready documentation packages including ODB++, Gerber files, IPC-compliant Bill of Materials (BOM), and assembly drawings.
Required Technical Skills & Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelors or Master's Degree in Electronics Engineering or related hardware discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 8+ years of electronics hardware design experience, with at least 3+ years in a technical leadership capacity.
