Lead Electrical Engineer – Transmission & Distribution

Burns & McDonnell India (BMI) T&D Pipelines is looking for a dynamic and self‑motivated Lead Electrical Engineer to support our Transmission & Distribution Pipeline Engineering and Design Team in the Mumbai Office. The role involves designing and consulting for electrical, instrumentation, and control components of pipeline facilities across projects ranging from small regulator station upgrades to large compressor stations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review AC & DC power systems, one‑line, three‑line, schematic and wiring diagrams, area classification drawings, grounding drawings, and lighting plans.
• Perform basic calculations: short circuit, cable sizing, voltage drop, conduit sizing and fill, and other relevant analyses.
• Design and specify electrical equipment including 15kV and 5kV gear, medium‑ and low‑voltage motor control centers, transformers, UPS, PDCs, and other typical equipment.
• Conduct electrical systems analysis including load flow, short circuit, arc‑flash, and protective relaying calculations using tools such as E‑Tap and SKM.
• Create and review specifications for electrical equipment.
• Coordinate with the team to develop P&IDs, control philosophies, and alarm setpoints, and provide EI&C comments on equipment procurement specifications and packages.
• Develop and review network diagrams, instrument location plans, I/O lists, instrument indexes, control philosophies, control narratives, cause & effect relationships, and instrument datasheets.
• Design and specify PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, and other instrumentation as required.
• Participate in proposal preparation and scope development.
• Prepare conceptual designs and material take‑offs for project cost estimates and schedules.
• Ensure adherence to the Quality Assurance process.
• Develop and improve processes, tools, and standards.
• Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members.
• Coordinate design activities with other disciplines located in India and abroad (Mechanical, Pipeline, Civil/Structural).
• Support recruitment initiatives within the E&I&C discipline.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with USA counterparts.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience (or a master’s degree in a related field substituting one year of experience).
• Experience in electrical, instrumentation, and control engineering for pipeline facilities such as natural gas metering and regulating stations, storage upgrades, and compressor stations.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial standards and codes such as AGA, API, PIP ISO, NFPA, NEC, IEEE.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Capability to solve difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria.

• Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Building Management Systems (BMS).
