Protection & Control Engineer – (Transmission & Distribution) – Mumbai
Substation Protection & Control (Secondary) Design Engineer. Main responsibilities include creating electrical protection & control design deliverables for projects ranging from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects. This position influences the future of the resiliency, reliability, and economic operation of the electric grid.
Role and Responsibilities
- Preparation of proposals and scope development, including conceptual designs and execution plans.
- Prepare engineering cost and man‑hour estimates and schedules.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings for EHV projects (AIS & GIS substations) from 33kV to 765kV.
- Design protection and control schematics, relay panel wiring diagrams, cable & conduit schedules, Bill of Materials.
- Prepare calculations and reports for engineering studies (Voltage drop, AC/DC load studies & others).
- Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.
- Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line & others).
- Review designs, attend virtual meetings, and coordinate with clients.
- Monitor project schedules, ensure quality delivery.
- Produce detailed substation design packages compliant with client technical standards or IES/IEEE/NESC.
- Coordinate with Burns & McDonnell Global Practices and Office Locations.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.
- Develop and improve processes, tools, and implement new technologies into design process.
- Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
- Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and judgment in solving problems.
- Assist with advancement and development of department tools and workflows.
- Undertake other duties as may be asked by management.
- Participate in training/meetings for organizational initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 3 years of experience (maximum 20 years).
Skills and Knowledge
- Acquainted with NESC, IEEE standards; experience with US, Canada, and UK projects preferable.
- Membership of relevant professional Engineering Institution (e.g., IET, CIGRE, IEC, IEEE).
- Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Methodical and analytical problem‑solving mindset with critical thinking.
- Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong diligence, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Basics of Substation automation system based on IEC61850.
- Knowledge of Relay Testing and Control/Protection scheme testing.
- AutoCAD electrical & Substation 3‑D Design skills.
Job will remain open for at least 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
