Job summary

Siemens Energy India invites an Experienced Controls Engineer to lead turbine controls projects, replacing obsolete equipment and upgrading protection software. You will develop hardware and software solutions, contribute to tenders, and guide teams through installation and commissioning.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent in Controls, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Software.
• 14+ years of experience in turbine control system design, governing and protection.
• Experience with Engineering Base (EB) and GEL for design.
• Knowledge of Siemens Step7, WinCC, TIA Portal, PCS7 and T3000.
• Experience with engineering networks and protocols (IEC61850, DNP, Modbus, Profinet/Profibus).
• Travel ~45% depending on project assignments and requirements.
• Advanced MS Visio and MS Office proficiency.
• Experience with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical.
• Hands-on with S7/S7 TI A/PCS7/WinCC/T3000 or similar control products.
• Familiar with change/configuration management tools and IT analytics/project tools.
• Experience with P&ID’s and ISA/ANSI standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop solutions to replace obsolete equipment and maintain turbine fleets.
• Write complex Governing & Protection software modules from operating philosophies.
• Deliver Controls Applications Software Service Modifications & Upgrades.
• Design/construct hardware solutions to upgrade controls systems.
• Create generic replacement kits for retrofitting.
• Support Installation & Commissioning teams to identify and rectify issues.
• Assist engineering sales and tender teams with quotes on times and hardware.
• Lead projects and mentor other team members in control systems work.
• Act as primary customer interface for troubleshooting and commissioning support.
• Provide lifecycle technical support from design through commissioning.

Job description

Experienced Controls Engineer specializing in industrial Steam Turbine control, governing, and protection systems. Proven expertise in developing innovative solutions to replace obsolete equipment and control systems, ensuring long-term reliability and maintainability of steam turbine fleets. Skilled in designing and implementing complex control software modules from operating philosophies, modernizing legacy systems, and developing generic retrofit kits for large-scale deployment.

How You\'ll Make an Impact (Lead Control Engineer - Turbine Controls, TI STG, India)

• Develop solutions to replace obsolete equipment/parts to able to maintain the business' fleet of industrial steam Turbines.
• Write complex Governing & Protection software modules from philosophy document's or convert obsolete control system into software driven system.
• Deliver Controls Applications Software Service Modification & Upgrade Projects based on current industrial Steam Turbine Operating Philosophy
• To be able to design/construct new hardware solutions to replace obsolete controls system or upgrade current control systems.
• To convert these solutions into generic replacement kits/parts for retrofitting
• Support the Installation & Commissioning Team when required to Identify and rectify problems found during installation and commissioning of equipment/software solutions supplied.
• Support the Engineering sales and tender to supply detailed quotes with regards to engineering times/potential hardware requirements/possible engineering solutions with regards to customer enquires
• The post will also support the existing Controls Engineering Teams in the design and development of Control Systems for Steam Turbine Equipment as supported by Siemens Energy Services
• Prepare (FAT & SAT) Factory & Site Acceptance Test procedures for protection systems projects.
• Be a technical leader in projects or lead other team members in project activities.
• Be one of our primary customer interfaces, including trouble shooting and commissioning support.
• Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases.

What You Bring

• A degree or equivalent experience / professionally accredited or recognized in an engineering subject area preferably relating to the fields of Controls, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, and Software.
• 14+ years of experience in Control system design in the Turbine Governing Control and Protection Engineering Field.
• Proven experience working with Engineering Base (EB) Software and the Global Engineering Library (GEL) database for design.
• Knowledge of Siemens Step7, WinCC, TIA Portal, PCS7 and T3000 automation products and associated software.
• Communication Network Technologies, including Design and hardware configuration.
• Communication protocols such as IEC61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus, IEC103, IEC101, IEC104, Profinet, Profibus.
• Control and Protection commissioning experience.
• Knowledge of ANSI standards, IEC standards.
• Around 45% of travel is expected depending on project assignments and requirements.
• Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Visio tools.
• Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical.
• Working experience with industrial controls systems applications and industrial IT networks, specific experience with Siemens S7, Siemens S7 TIA, PCS7, WinCC, T3000 or having worked with similar products used for the control and protection of industrial steam turbine technology or general process plant operations.
• Working knowledge of change/configuration management tools and processes, as well as experience with other IT related tools and software for business analytics and project management.
• Experience with working with P&ID’s and ISA/ANSI standards.
