Job summary

K K Patel Super Speciality Hospital in Bhuj is seeking a Lab Phlebotomist to collect, identify, label, and handle patient blood and other specimens in accordance with approved procedures. You will prep patients, perform venipuncture, and ensure accurate labeling and timely transport to the lab.

The role requires 1-2 years of experience and a high school diploma, and you will work on site in the Laboratory department with strict infection control practices and patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience in phlebotomy or related lab role.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood and other appropriate specimens according to laboratory protocols.
• Verify patient identity using approved identification procedures.
• Explain the specimen collection process to patients in a professional manner.
• Prepare patients and required collection materials before the procedure.
• Select appropriate collection tubes, needles, and other supplies.
• Perform venipuncture and other authorized specimen collection procedures safely.
• Collect pediatric, geriatric, or difficult samples according to training and protocol.
• Label specimens accurately at the time of collection.
• Ensure correct matching of patient details and specimen labels.
• Handle specimens carefully to prevent contamination, leakage, or damage.
• Maintain appropriate sample storage and transport conditions.
• Send collected specimens to the relevant laboratory section promptly.
• Record specimen collection details in registers or approved systems.
• Monitor patients for dizziness, bleeding, fainting, or other reactions after collection.
• Provide appropriate immediate care and escalation when required.
• Follow standard precautions, hand hygiene, and infection prevention practices.
• Dispose of needles, sharps, and biomedical waste according to approved procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the specimen collection area.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and laboratory information.
• Coordinate with laboratory staff regarding rejected, inadequate, or urgent specimens.
