About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Application Specialist (Java L3 Support) to join a global support and engineering team supporting critical applications for Goldman Sachs, one of the world's leading investment banks.

This is not a traditional support role. The position combines production support, troubleshooting, automation, problem-solving, development, and domain learning. Successful candidates will work closely with global teams to identify, troubleshoot, and permanently resolve production issues while contributing to system improvements and automation initiatives.

Key ResponsibilitiesApplication Support & Production Management

• Provide L3 support for business-critical applications in production environments.
• Perform deep-dive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring and complex production issues and implement permanent fixes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve high-severity incidents within defined SLAs.
• Monitor application health, performance, and availability using monitoring and alerting tools.
• Analyze application logs, server logs, and system metrics to identify issues proactively.
• Coordinate with infrastructure, database, and development teams for issue resolution.
• Participate in on-call and production support rotations.

Java Development & Enhancement

• Design, develop, and maintain applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Develop code fixes, enhancements, and new functionality for supported applications.
• Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical design discussions.
• Optimize application performance and improve system reliability.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.

Linux & Middleware Support

• Work extensively on Unix/Linux systems for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
• Perform log analysis and system monitoring.
• Create and maintain shell scripts for automation and operational activities.
• Support application deployments and release activities.

ITIL & Operational Excellence

• Manage Incidents, Problems, Changes, and Service Requests as per ITIL processes.
• Maintain support documentation, runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge articles.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce recurring incidents.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 48 years of experience in Application Support and Java Development.
• Strong hands-on experience in Java 8/11/17 and Spring Boot.
• Excellent coding skills in Java (Mandatory).
• Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and design patterns.
• Experience in troubleshooting and debugging Java applications.
• Solid working knowledge of Unix/Linux commands, shell scripting, and system diagnostics.
• Experience with REST APIs and microservices architecture.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Experience supporting high-availability, business-critical applications.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
