Job summary

Nielsen is seeking an L1 Backup & Storage Operations Engineer in Bengaluru to manage storage infrastructure and backup operations. The role requires hands-on experience with NetApp ONTAP or Pure Storage and backup tools like Veritas NetBackup or Cohesity, along with ITIL/ITSM knowledge.

You will monitor capacity, performance, incidents, and participate in shift-based enterprise operations while ensuring SLA compliance and proper handovers.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of backup/storage/infrastructure operations experience.
• Strong storage skill with either NetApp ONTAP OR Pure Storage.
• Secondary backup skill in either Veritas NetBackup OR Cohesity: monitoring, failed jobs, restores, alerts and basic troubleshooting.
• ITIL/ITSM knowledge: Incident, Request, Change and Problem Management.
• ServiceNow or another ITSM/ticketing tool experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and support Storage infrastructure; identify capacity, performance, hardware and connectivity issues.
• Perform L1 troubleshooting for NetApp / Pure Storage incidents and expand complex issues to L2/L3 or vendors.
• Monitor backup jobs and investigate failed/partial jobs, alerts and restore requests.
• Perform routine storage/backup operational activities as per SOPs and runbooks.
• Create and update incidents, requests and changes in ServiceNow/ITSM tool and maintain SLA compliance.
• Perform shift handovers, maintain operational documentation and communicate incidents clearly

ROLE SUMMARY

We are looking for an L1 Backup & Storage Operations Engineer with 3-5 years of hands-on enterprise infrastructure experience. Primary focus is Storage operations, with experience in either NetApp ONTAP or Pure Storage. Backup knowledge in Veritas NetBackup or Cohesity is required as a secondary skill. ITIL/ITSM knowledge is required

Qualifications

MUST-HAVE SKILLS

• 3-5 years relevant Backup / Storage / Infrastructure Operations experience.
• Strong primary Storage skill with either NetApp ONTAP OR Pure Storage.
• NetApp: SVMs, volumes, LUNs, NFS/CIFS, snapshots, capacity and replication/DR basics.
• Pure Storage: provisioning, volumes, capacity, snapshots/replication and monitoring basics.
• Secondary Backup skill in either Veritas NetBackup OR Cohesity: monitoring, failed jobs, restores, alerts and basic troubleshooting.
• ITIL/ITSM knowledge: Incident, Request, Change and Problem Management.
• ServiceNow or another ITSM/ticketing tool experience.
• Good incident handling, shift handover, documentation and escalation skills

Additional Information

GOOD-TO-HAVE

• SAN / Brocade / Cisco switch exposure.
• NetBackup appliances, MSDP, SLPs or catalog operations.
• Monitoring tools and alert-to-incident handling.
• Replication, DR activities or storage migrations.
• 24x7 / shift-based enterprise operations experience.
