Job summary

SRM in Chennai seeks an experienced Interior Designer for Luxury Caravan and Premium EV bus interiors. You will conceptualize ergonomic, opulent spaces balancing aesthetics, safety, weight optimization and sustainability.

You will produce detailed AutoCAD drawings, 3D renders, and coordinate with body, electrical, HVAC and EV teams to deliver premium, modular interiors for caravans, sleeper coaches and luxury buses, while meeting AIS, CMVR and fire safety norms.

Role & responsibilities

Interior Designer Luxury Caravan, Bus Interiors

Job Purpose

To conceptualize and deliver luxury, ergonomic, and technologically advanced interiors for caravans, LUXURY buses, balancing aesthetics, comfort, safety, weight optimization, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Luxury Interior Concept & Design

• Create high-end interior concepts for luxury caravans, sleeper coaches, and premium electric buses.
• Design sleeping berths, lounge seating, kitchenette, washrooms, storage, driver cabins, and multi-use spaces.
• Develop luxury themes, mood boards, color palettes, textures, lighting concepts, and finishes.
• Integrate hospitality-level comfort with automotive durability.

2. lUXURY BUS & Sustainability-Focused Design

• Design interiors optimized for Luxury bus architecture (battery placement, weight balance, thermal considerations).
• Select lightweight, eco-friendly, recyclable, and fire-retardant materials.
• Optimize layouts to improve energy efficiency and vehicle range.
• Ensure compliance with EV safety norms and thermal management requirements.

3. Sleeper & Caravan-Specific Design Expertise

• Design ergonomic sleeper berths with ventilation, lighting, privacy, and safety features.
• Plan compact yet functional caravan spaces with foldable furniture and modular systems.
• Design interiors compliant with long-duration travel comfort standards.
• Ensure ease of movement and accessibility within limited space.

4. Technical Design & Engineering Coordination

• Prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings, layouts, sections, and fabrication drawings.
• Develop 3D models and realistic renders for client approvals.
• Coordinate with body structure, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and EV engineering teams.
• Ensure designs meet AIS, CMVR, fire safety, and insulation standards.

5. Materials, Vendors & Prototyping

• Specify premium upholstery, flooring, laminates, composites, lighting systems, and fixtures.
• Evaluate vendor samples for luxury feel, durability, weight, and safety.
• Support prototype interiors and mock-ups for new models.
• Assist procurement with BOQs and technical specifications.

6. Client Interface & Brand Alignment

• Translate client lifestyle requirements into functional luxury interiors.
• Present concepts, 3D walkthroughs, and material boards to clients.
• Customize interiors as per branding, hospitality, or tourism themes.
• Manage design changes without compromising safety or timelines.

7. Execution Support & Quality Control

• Support production during interior fabrication and installation.
• Conduct design audits and quality checks on finished interiors.
• Ensure final output matches approved design and luxury standards.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• AutoCAD
• 3D Tools: SketchUp / 3ds Max / Blender / Rhino / SolidWorks
• Knowledge of automotive interiors, modular furniture, and EV packaging
• Understanding of fire safety, insulation, NVH, and thermal design

Design & Creative Skills

• Strong sense of luxury aesthetics and spatial planning

Qualifications

• 5–10 years in luxury vehicle interiors, caravans, yachts, rail coaches, or premium automotive projects
• Proven experience in sleeper bus or electric vehicle interior projects preferred
