The Infection Control Nurse (ICN) is responsible for implementing and monitoring infection prevention and control practices throughout the hospital. The focuses on reducing healthcare-associated infections, maintaining hygiene and sterilization standards, monitoring infection trends, educating healthcare staff, and ensuring compliance with hospital infection control policies and applicable guidelines. The ICN works closely with nursing teams, doctors, housekeeping, laboratory staff, and the infection control committee to promote a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

• Implement and monitor infection prevention and control policies across hospital departments.
• Conduct regular infection control rounds in wards, ICUs, operation theatres, and other clinical areas.
• Monitor compliance with hand hygiene practices among healthcare workers.
• Conduct surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
• Collect, analyze, and maintain infection control data and reports.
• Monitor compliance with standard and transmission-based precautions.

• Coordinate with microbiology and laboratory teams for infection surveillance.
• Monitor isolation procedures for patients with communicable or multidrug-resistant infections.
• Assist in developing and updating infection control policies, protocols, and SOPs.
• Maintain infection control registers, audit records, and surveillance documentation.
• Conduct infection control audits and follow up on identified gaps.
• Recommend corrective and preventive actions to improve compliance.
• Participate in infection control committee meetings and related quality improvement activities.
• Support compliance with applicable hospital accreditation standards, including NABH requirements where relevant.
• Monitor environmental hygiene and cleaning practices in coordination with housekeeping.
