Job summary

Pellera Technologies in Pune seeks an IBM Power i Operations Engineer to manage day-to-day IBM i environments within the Managed Services portfolio. The role operates in a 24x7x365 model, ensuring system stability, performance and adherence to SLAs.

The engineer will handle event monitoring, incident resolution, backup and recovery, patching and replication management with MIMIX, Itera and QED, integrating with ticketing systems and service desks.

Qualifications

• IBM Power i / iSeries experience required.
• Experience with HA/DR tools and disaster recovery processes.
• Strong communication and ITIL process knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24x7x365 operational support for IBM Power i systems.
• Accept and resolve customer IBM i Operational tickets in the ticketing system.
• Monitor system health, performance, and availability; perform incident management and troubleshooting.
• Manage event management and service request fulfillment; ensure backup and recovery operations.
• Monitor PTF update progress and manage Job Scheduler and Job Queue tasks.
• Monitor message queues; support HA/DR replication tools (MIMIX, Itera, QED) and participate in DR testing.
• Document operational procedures and runbooks; integrate with customer ticketing systems and service desks.

Position Title: IBM Power i Operations Engineer

Job Summary

The IBM Power i Operations Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operational management, monitoring, and support of IBM i (iSeries) environments within Pelleras Managed Infrastructure Services portfolio. This role operates in a 24x7x365 managed services delivery model and is accountable for maintaining system stability, performance, availability, and adherence to customer SLAs.

The engineer will execute operational tasks including event monitoring, incident resolution, backup and recovery, patching, and replication management (e.g., MIMIX, QEDD), while integrating fully with customer ticketing systems, escalation processes, and service delivery frameworks.

Essential Functions

• Provide 24x7x365 operational support for IBM Power i systems
• Work in ticketing system to accept and resolve customer IBM i Operational tickets
• Experience with using monitoring or automation tools like Halcyon
• Monitor system health, performance, and availability
• Execute incident management and troubleshooting activities
• Perform event management and service request fulfillment
• Administer backup and recovery operations
• Monitor PTF update progress
• Manage Job Scheduler and Job Queue Tasks
• Monitor and respond to system message queues
• Support HA/DR replication tools such as MIMIX, Itera, and QED
• Participate in DR testing exercises
• Integrate with customer ticketing systems and service desks
• Document operational procedures and runbooks
• Create work instructions for future team use
• MIMIX, Itera, and/or QEDD administrative experience

Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies

• IBM i (iSeries / OS/400) experience
• HA/DR technologies (MIMIX, QEDD)
• IBM i Access client Solutions experience
• IBM i BRMS experience including physical and virtual tape libraries
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly document issues and communicate with technical and non-technical users
• ITIL process knowledge
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work in 24x7 environments

Education And Experience

37+ years IBM Power i experience Managed services experience preferred Degree in IT or equivalent experience

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
