Department of Facilities and Services is seeking an HVAC Mechanic. Duration: Full‑time, 40 hours per week, including benefits.
Duties
- Under direction maintains and repairs heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning equipment; performs related work as required.
Examples of Work
- Maintains, repairs, assembles, and installs condensers, compressors, motors, heat exchangers, heat pumps, stationary boilers, cooling towers, and other heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air‑conditioning units.
- Assembles and connects pipes and ducts for refrigerants, steam, hot water, and warm or conditioned air.
- Overhauls and repairs pumps, compressors, controls, piping, ducts, and other equipment used in heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning systems.
- Calibrates thermostats.
- Checks operation of water‑cooling towers and drains water lines when switching from air conditioning to heating.
- Keeps records and files.
- Utilizes email/computer programs and various electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Requirements
- Experience: Three (3) years in maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning equipment.
- License: Valid universal Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Certification of the appropriate level issued by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
- Driver’s license valid in New Jersey if vehicle operation is required.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of refrigeration cycle principles and temperature measurement.
- Knowledge of concentration and operation of various refrigeration unit systems.
- Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices for repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning work.
- Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective methods.
- Ability to take necessary safety precautions during work.
- Ability to care for tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability to keep records and files.
- Ability to learn use of various electronic and manual recording and information systems.
