Position Overview
We are looking for a HR Business Partner to support our automotive manufacturing plant at Oragadam, Chennai.
The HRBP will work closely with the Plant Head and functional teams to manage day-to-day plant HR activities, employee relations, workforce planning, performance management, employee engagement and HR operations.
The role requires a hands‑on HR professional who can effectively work with shop‑floor employees, supervisors, managers and plant leadership and support a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Plant HR & Business Partnering
- Partner with the Plant Head and functional managers on day‑to‑day people and HR matters.
- Understand manpower and operational requirements and provide appropriate HR support.
- Ensure effective implementation of HR policies and processes at the plant.
- Act as a point of contact for employees and managers on HR‑related matters.
Workforce Planning & Recruitment
- Work with plant leadership to identify manpower requirements based on production and business needs.
- Coordinate recruitment for shop‑floor, technical, supervisory and support positions.
- Ensure timely onboarding and induction of new employees.
- Monitor manpower strength, absenteeism, overtime and attrition.
- Support manpower optimization and productivity initiatives.
Employee Relations
- Handle employee grievances, disciplinary issues, attendance concerns and workplace conflicts.
- Support investigations and appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain positive employee relations across the plant.
- Work closely with supervisors and managers to resolve employee‑related issues.
- Ensure consistent implementation of company policies and disciplinary procedures.
Performance Management
- Coordinate the performance management process for plant employees.
- Support managers in setting goals, conducting reviews and providing performance feedback.
- Assist managers in handling performance improvement cases.
- Identify high‑performing employees and development opportunities.
Employee Engagement & Retention
- Plan and implement employee engagement activities at the plant.
- Conduct employee interactions and feedback sessions.
- Identify key reasons for employee attrition and recommend retention initiatives.
- Support recognition and employee welfare initiatives.
- Strengthen communication between employees and plant management.
Learning & Development
- Identify training requirements in coordination with functional managers.
- Coordinate technical, behavioural and compliance training programs.
- Support skill development initiatives for shop‑floor employees and supervisors.
- Maintain training records and monitor completion.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Ensure accurate maintenance of employee records and HR documentation.
- Support compliance with applicable labour laws and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with relevant internal and external stakeholders for statutory matters.
- Support HR audits and compliance reviews.
- Ensure timely completion of HR processes and documentation.
HR MIS & Analytics
- Prepare and maintain plant HR reports and dashboards.
- Track key HR metrics such as:
- Headcount
- Attrition
- Absenteeism
- Overtime
- Recruitment
- Training
- Employee engagement
- Analyze HR trends and provide insights to plant leadership.
HR Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve plant HR processes.
- Support implementation of HR initiatives and process improvements.
- Work closely with operations teams to improve employee productivity and workplace effectiveness.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline.
- MBA / PGDM in Human Resources will be an advantage.
- 510 years of experience in HR, preferably with significant exposure to plant HR.
- Experience in automotive, auto components, engineering or manufacturing industries preferred.
- Hands‑on experience in employee relations and shop‑floor HR.
- Experience working with both blue‑collar and white‑collar employees.
- Good understanding of Indian labour laws and statutory compliance.
- Experience in recruitment, employee engagement, performance management and HR operations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good stakeholder management and problem‑solving abilities.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel and HR systems/MIS.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in an automotive / auto‑component manufacturing plant.
- Exposure to shop‑floor workforce management.
- Experience handling employee grievances and disciplinary matters.
- Exposure to manpower planning and productivity improvement.
- Experience working with supervisors and first‑line managers.
- Exposure to industrial relations / unionized workforce will be an advantage.
- Candidates from Chennai / Sriperumbudur / Oragadam / Kanchipuram automotive manufacturing belt preferred.
