The Head Project Controls will lead the budgeting, project cost control, contractor billing, commercial governance, and financial reporting functions across ENGIE's renewable energy projects. This role is responsible for establishing robust project financial controls, ensuring accurate contractor billing, maintaining budget discipline, and driving cash flow optimization throughout the project lifecycle.
The incumbent will play a key role in implementing and leveraging SAP for project budgeting, billing, cost monitoring, and reporting while partnering closely with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and Site Execution teams to ensure commercial excellence and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Budgeting & Cost Control
Project Budgeting & Cost Control
- Develop, monitor, and control project budgets in line with approved business plans and project baselines.
- Establish project cost control mechanisms to monitor commitments, actual expenditures, and forecasted costs.
- Analyze budget variances and provide actionable recommendations to optimize project costs.
- Support project teams in developing cost estimates, budget revisions, and financial forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare regular management reports highlighting project financial performance, cost trends, and key risks.
SAP-Based Project Controls
- Lead the implementation, optimization, and governance of SAP for project budgeting, contractor billing, cost control, and financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of project costs, commitments, invoices, and billing transactions within SAP.
- Drive integration between SAP Project Systems (PS), Materials Management (MM), Finance (FI/CO), and Procurement modules.
- Improve project financial reporting through automation, dashboards, and standardized SAP processes.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project financial controls and reporting accuracy.
Contractor Billing & Commercial Management
- Review, verify, and certify contractor and subcontractor invoices based on contractual milestones, executed quantities, and site progress.
- Ensure contractor payments comply with contractual terms, approved rates, measurement records, and work completion certificates.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Project Management, Site Execution, Procurement, and Finance teams to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Monitor billing cycles to ensure timely invoice certification and payment processing.
- Manage change orders, variation claims, extra items, and commercial adjustments in accordance with contract provisions.
Contract Administration
- Support commercial administration of EPC and service contracts throughout project execution.
- Monitor contractual obligations, payment milestones, retention amounts, and performance guarantees.
- Maintain complete documentation related to contracts, amendments, claims, and commercial correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance policies and contractual requirements.
Cash Flow Planning & Financial Governance
- Prepare and maintain project cash flow forecasts aligned with project schedules and contractual payment milestones.
- Monitor cash inflows and outflows to support project liquidity and financial planning.
- Identify financial risks impacting project profitability and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support monthly financial closing activities, project forecasting, and management reporting.
- Assist internal and external auditors by providing accurate financial records and project documentation.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate closely with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and Site teams to ensure alignment on project financial objectives.
- Act as the primary commercial interface for contractor billing and financial control matters.
- Present project financial performance, budget status, and key commercial risks to senior management.

Experience
- Minimum 15 years of experience in project controls, commercial management, budgeting, billing, or project finance within the renewable energy, infrastructure, EPC, or industrial sectors.
- Proven experience managing financial controls for large-scale EPC or IPP projects.
- Hands-on experience with SAP implementation and project financial systems is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of contractor billing, quantity reconciliation, contract administration, and project cost management.
- Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects will be highly preferred.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil / Electrical Engineering
- Additional certifications in Contract Management, Commercial Management, Strategic Sourcing, Project Controls, or Supply Chain Management will be an added advantage.
