Head of Memberships

Location: Bengaluru

Function: Membership, Community & Growth

Reporting to: Executive Director

Role Level: Senior Leadership

About the Organisation

The Organisation is one of the leading chapters of a global entrepreneurship network dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship through mentoring, networking, education, funding and ecosystem development.

Bringing together successful entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors, founders, professionals, academia and ecosystem stakeholders, the Organisation works towards building a strong and inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem. Its initiatives span member engagement, mentoring, startup acceleration, investor connects, industry-focused programmes, thought leadership, partnerships and large-scale entrepreneurial platforms.

Role Purpose

The Head of Memberships will be responsible for building, growing and strengthening the Organisation's membership community.

This is a strategic and execution-oriented leadership role with end-to-end responsibility for membership acquisition, revenue, engagement, retention and member experience across the Organisation's membership categories.

The role requires someone who can combine a strong commercial mindset with community building. The successful candidate will be expected not only to grow membership numbers but also to ensure that members derive meaningful and measurable value from their association with the Organisation.

The Head of Memberships will work closely with the Executive Director, President, Board Members, Principal Members, programme teams and ecosystem partners to build a highly engaged entrepreneurial community.

Key Responsibilities

1. Membership Strategy & Growth

Develop and execute the Organisation's overall membership strategy, with clearly defined annual and quarterly goals for acquisition, revenue, engagement and retention.

Build a strong and continuously evolving pipeline of prospective members across entrepreneurs, founders, CXOs, investors, professionals and other relevant ecosystem stakeholders.

Identify priority segments and develop differentiated acquisition strategies for each membership category.

Create structured conversion funnels from programmes, events, partnerships and ecosystem initiatives into membership.

Develop campaigns and outreach initiatives to expand the Organisation's reach into new entrepreneurial and professional communities.

Work closely with the Executive Director and Board to leverage their networks for high-quality member acquisition.

2. Principal Member Acquisition & Engagement

Drive the identification and onboarding of high-quality Principal Members, including successful entrepreneurs, founders, investors, CXOs and business leaders.

Build a structured Principal Member prospect pipeline and actively manage prospects from identification through engagement and conversion.

Partner with existing Principal Members and Board Members to generate introductions and referrals.

Develop a strong engagement proposition for Principal Members that enables them to contribute meaningfully through mentoring, investing, speaking, thought leadership, committees and ecosystem initiatives.

Ensure Principal Members remain active participants in the community rather than passive members.

3. Member Acquisition & Revenue Ownership

Own membership revenue targets and build a predictable membership revenue engine.

Create monthly, quarterly and annual acquisition plans with clear targets and conversion metrics.

Track the complete membership funnel, including:

Leads generated

Qualified prospects

Meetings and conversations

Applications

Conversions

Membership revenue

Renewals

Retention

Lapsed-member reactivation

Develop appropriate membership packages, campaigns and value propositions in consultation with the Executive Director.

Identify opportunities for cross-selling and upgrading members into higher-value membership categories where appropriate.

4. Member Engagement & Experience

Develop a structured member journey from onboarding through engagement, renewal and advocacy.

Ensure every new member receives a high-quality onboarding experience and understands how to access the network, programmes and opportunities.

Create member segmentation based on interests, industry, stage of business, expertise and engagement levels.

Work with programme teams to connect members with relevant:

Mentoring opportunities

Investor interactions

Industry and Special Interest Groups

Roundtables and closed-door forums

Speaking opportunities

Founder programmes

Networking platforms

Thought-leadership initiatives

Global and cross-chapter opportunities

Build mechanisms to understand what members value and continuously improve the membership experience.

5. Retention & Renewals

Own the annual membership renewal and retention strategy.

Build an early-warning mechanism to identify members at risk of disengagement or non-renewal.

Ensure renewal conversations begin well ahead of membership expiry and are based on demonstrated member value rather than transactional renewal reminders.

Develop re-engagement strategies for inactive and lapsed members.

Conduct periodic member satisfaction and engagement reviews and translate feedback into actionable improvements.

Establish retention targets by membership category and monitor them closely.

6. Community Building

Build a strong sense of belonging and community across the Organisation.

Develop opportunities for members to interact beyond large events through smaller curated communities, peer groups, industry forums and interest-based networks.

Identify highly engaged members who can become community champions, mentors, committee members and ambassadors for the Organisation.

Encourage member-to-member collaboration, business connections, mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Ensure that the membership community reflects the diversity and breadth of Bengaluru's entrepreneurial ecosystem.

7. Member Value Proposition

Continuously strengthen and articulate the Organisation's membership value proposition.

Understand the differing expectations of Principal Members, entrepreneurs, professionals and other member categories and develop differentiated engagement strategies.

Create tangible member benefits around the core pillars of:

Mentoring | Networking | Education | Investment | Entrepreneurship | Global Connect

Track member outcomes wherever possible, including introductions facilitated, mentoring relationships, investor connections, collaborations, business opportunities and leadership participation.

8. CRM, Data & Membership Analytics

Own the integrity and effectiveness of the membership CRM and database.

Ensure accurate capture of member profiles, interactions, interests, engagement, payments, renewals and membership status.

Build dashboards covering key membership KPIs and provide regular reports to the Executive Director and Board.

Use data to identify engagement patterns, acquisition opportunities, renewal risks and potential member segments.

Drive disciplined CRM usage across the membership function.

9. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with the programme, partnerships, marketing, finance and operations teams to ensure an integrated member experience.

Partner with the programmes team to ensure that member needs influence programme design and that programmes create opportunities for membership conversion.

Work with marketing and communications to develop targeted membership campaigns, member stories and community communication.

Coordinate with finance to ensure accurate membership invoicing, collections and revenue reconciliation.

Work with the global network and other chapters to create opportunities for members to access the wider network.

10. Team Leadership

Build and manage a high-performing membership team.

Establish clear individual targets and accountability across acquisition, engagement, renewals and operations.

Develop strong processes and operating rhythms including weekly pipeline reviews, monthly performance reviews and quarterly membership planning.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an experienced professional who combines business development, relationship management, community building and commercial discipline.

The ideal candidate will have:

Approximately 10–15 years of professional experience, preferably across membership organisations, business development, key-account management, communities, professional networks, startup ecosystems, chambers/industry bodies or B2B services.

Demonstrated experience owning revenue or growth targets.

Strong experience in building and managing senior-level relationships.

Ability to engage credibly with founders, entrepreneurs, CXOs, investors and business leaders.

Strong networking and stakeholder-management capabilities.

Experience building structured pipelines and driving conversions.

Strong understanding of CRM, funnel management and data-led performance management.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong execution orientation and ability to operate in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment.

Ability to work collaboratively with a Board, senior volunteers and multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Experience within the startup, technology, investment, entrepreneurial or innovation ecosystem would be highly desirable.

What We Are Looking For in the Individual

The successful candidate should be:

Commercially driven — comfortable owning numbers, revenue and conversion targets.

Relationship oriented — able to build trusted relationships with senior entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Community minded — understands that successful membership organisations are built around value and belonging, not merely acquisition.

Highly execution focused — able to translate strategy into weekly actions and measurable outcomes.

Entrepreneurial — comfortable working with ambiguity, identifying opportunities and building new initiatives.

Data driven — uses CRM, analytics and member behaviour to make decisions.

High ownership — takes end-to-end responsibility for outcomes rather than limiting the role to coordination.

The Opportunity

The Head of Memberships will have the opportunity to shape one of the Organisation's most important strategic pillars and build a powerful community of entrepreneurs, investors and business leaders.

The mandate goes beyond increasing membership numbers. The objective is to create a high-value, highly engaged and self-reinforcing entrepreneurial community where members actively contribute, collaborate and advocate for the Organisation.

The role therefore sits at the intersection of growth, revenue, relationships, community and entrepreneurship and will play a central role in the Organisation's next phase of growth.
