Job summary

The Corporate Institute in Bengaluru seeks a senior finance leader to own the complete financial engine of a fast-growing consumer brand, from closing the books to strategic bets, with direct access to the founders. You will build the finance function from the ground up, run the annual plan and monthly re-forecasts across D2C, marketplaces, and quick commerce, and own margins, pricing, and working capital.

Qualifications

• 8-12 years in finance with real ownership of both FP&A and controllership; D2C / e-commerce / consumer-brand experience essential.
• Multi-SKU, multi-channel P&L experience in a physical-product business with inventory as a live variable; early-stage or scale-up preferred.
• Fluent across Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, marketplace settlement reports and Tally; hands-on with GST, TDS and Indian compliance.
• Strong working-capital experience; builds financial models from scratch; connects decisions to business outcomes.
• Commercially sharp and able to explain margin problems in plain language; track record outweighs credentials.
• Willing to be the sole senior finance person for a period; CA / MBA preferred.
• Ability to build and lead a small team as the business scales.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close clean, on time with full books (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) reconciled across platforms.
• Build and run the Annual Operating Plan and monthly re-forecasts across channels and SKUs.
• Own revenue, margin models and pricing decisions; drive SKU/channel profitability and risk management.
• Negotiate supplier terms, manage working capital and cash conversion cycles with ops and supply chain.
• Sit in the room for major commercial bets; develop board- and investor-ready reporting as the business scales.

Job description

The Role:

Own the complete financial engine of a fast-growing consumer brand from closing the books and managing cash, to sitting in the room when the big commercial bets get made. This is a senior leadership role with genuine ownership of both FP&A and controllership, a direct line to the founders, and the mandate to build the finance function from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Commercial Finance, FP&A & Margin:

• – Build and run the Annual Operating Plan and monthly re-forecast across channels and SKUs, and own the revenue and margin model across D2C, Amazon, Flipkart and quick commerce.


• – Translate platform fees, ad spend, logistics and returns into clear contribution margin, and build scenario models for launches, pricing and campaigns.


• – Own SKU- and channel-level profitability (including return and warranty costs), and drive pricing, COGS and channel-mix decisions on which SKUs to scale, reprice or exit.

2. Accounting & Controllership:

• – Own the monthly close clean, on time, no backlog with full books (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) reconciled across Shopify, marketplace settlements, payment gateways and bank.


• – Keep GST, TDS and all statutory compliance filed correctly and on time, with audit-ready financials and clean vendor and marketplace payables.

3. Working Capital & Cash:

• – Own the cash conversion cycle end to end inventory days, payables, receivables and marketplace settlement tracking and set reorder triggers and safety-stock levels with ops and supply chain.


• – Negotiate and manage supplier payment terms, and shorten the working-capital cycle without starving growth, flagging stress before it becomes a crisis.

4. Business Partnership:

• – Sit in the room for every major commercial decision launches, inventory commitments, campaigns and channel expansion modelling unit economics, break-even and inventory risk for every new bet.


• – Evaluate campaign and promo ROI, and build and own board- and investor-ready reporting as the business scales.

What We’re Looking For:

• – 8-12 years in finance with real ownership of both FP&A and controllership; D2C / e-commerce / consumer-brand experience is essential.


• – Multi-SKU, multi-channel P&L experience in a physical-product business where inventory is a live variable; early-stage or scale-up experience strongly preferred.


• – Fluent across Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, marketplace settlement reports and Tally (or equivalent); hands-on with GST, TDS and Indian statutory compliance.

• – Commercially sharp connects financial decisions to business outcomes and explains margin problems in plain language.
