What Do We Do

ShopDeck helps e-commerce merchants set up and manage their D2C storefront

Proposition For Merchants

D2C selling made as easy as selling on marketplaces like AZ, FK, Meesho, Myntra, etc

Why build this?
  • India’s D2C wave has been limited to venture-funded D2C brands today
  • The art of selling on your own website is not democratised. There are ~500k-1M sellers who can sell D2C but can at best sell on marketplaces 3. Philosophically - we feel brand owners should spend most of their time on the product and not on channel optimisation
  • Shopify / Status-quo software solve for work‑flow management of storefront but don’t do enough on “helping” merchants sell well!
Our proposition
Role

We have a software + services proposition for the merchant with the goal of optimizing for the merchant's profitability. Our product is an all‑in‑one software stack that gives merchants everything they need to sell D2C, i.e. Storefront, Shipping, Marketing integrations, Communication. Our services layer works on top of this software stack to achieve profitability for merchants. Here, we combine 4-key roles in classic e-commerce setup, all relevant for any D2C brand as well:

  • Marketing manager (“top of the funnel”)
  • Category manager (“products/merchandising”)
  • Product manager (“website/app metrics”)
  • Ops manager (“shipping metrics”)

Our services layer measures metrics across all these buckets to optimise and take appropriate actions for merchant’s profitability. Over time, the goal is to productise our services layer - which we believe will move the baseline of what merchants expect from a storefront software.

Team And Scale

We’re at ~$4.5M ARR and had hit profitability earlier in the year. We’ve recently raised series‑B from led by Bessemer Venture Partners (who had famously led Series A for Shopify in 2010) with participation from Elevation Capital, General Catalyst (fka Venture Highway) and Chiratae Ventures.

About The Role

We are looking for a Finance Associate who can build and scale a high‑ownership finance function with a strong focus on high-quality automation, robust controls, and decision‑grade reporting. This is a 0-1 charter—you will work closely with leadership to streamline finance operations, reduce manual work, build clean financial hygiene, and enable faster business decisions through strong MIS and FP&A support.

In addition to hands‑on ownership, you will lead and mentor a small execution team / set up an execution pod (in‑house + partners where needed) to ensure reliable closing, compliance, reconciliations, and reporting cadence. This role offers a high learning curve with exposure to startup pace and cross‑functional work.

Role Charter
  • High-quality automation: Lead the identification of repeatable finance workflows and drive automation (closing, reconciliations, MIS refresh, collections tracking, vendor payouts, etc.) to minimise manual dependency, improve accuracy, and reduce TAT.
  • 0-1 finance charter: Set up scalable processes and operating rhythms - controls, templates, calendars, SOPs, and documentation - so finance runs consistently and predictably, even as the business scales.
  • Strong controllership + compliance hygiene: Own the bar for accuracy of books, statutory compliance, and audit readiness; ensure the team follows strong review/approval discipline and evidence trails.
  • FP&A / finance control exposure: Own planning support - budgeting, cash forecasting, variance analysis, and management dashboards - while ensuring underlying data quality via strong controllership.
  • High ownership, high learning: Be the “finance operator” who solves problems, coaches the team, coordinates cross‑functional, and drives measurable improvements in speed, quality, and transparency.
Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Closing, Accounting & Hygiene
  • Lead end‑to‑end monthly closing with a clear closing calendar, checklists, owners, and closure discipline.
  • Ensure accurate bookkeeping, GL hygiene, and reconciliations (bank, PG, merchant, vendor, inter‑company if applicable) through a strong maker‑checker process.
  • Review and sign off on P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, and supporting schedules with audit‑grade accuracy.
  • Automation & Process Excellence (Core Focus): Map finance processes end‑to‑end and assign ownership across the team for automation opportunities (data capture, validation, posting, reporting). Drive automated MIS/reporting refreshes (templates + logic + controls), reduce manual Excel errors, and improve turnaround time with clear QA checkpoints.
  • Implement maker‑checker controls, documentation, and SOPs so outcomes remain stable independent of individual dependency.
  • Lead process improvements across AP/AR, settlements, reimbursements, and vendor payments to improve speed and accuracy.
  • Compliance, Audit & Controls: Own GST/TDS compliance and ensure filings are accurate and on‑time via team execution + your review.
  • Maintain audit‑ready documentation and coordinate with statutory/internal auditors; ensure the team maintains evidence and schedules proactively.
  • Strengthen internal controls: approval flows, vendor master hygiene, invoice validation, GL discipline, exception tracking, and closure.
  • AR/AP, Cash Flow & Working Capital: Lead AP/AR operations - ageing reviews, follow‑ups, dispute management, and closure; ensure weekly hygiene reviews with clear action tracking.
  • Own cash flow visibility: runway tracking, weekly cash forecast, and payment prioritization; ensure the team publishes a consistent cadence report.
  • Monitor expense budgets and ensure variance visibility vs plan with clear narratives and corrective actions.
  • FP&A and Business Reporting (Preferred Experience Area): Drive budgeting/forecasting support, variance analysis, and crisp narratives for leadership - anchored on reliable numbers.
  • Build and own dashboards for management (KPIs, unit economics, burn, collections, payout cycles, cash conversion, etc.).
  • Partner with stakeholders to improve cost visibility, efficiency, and decision‑making; translate business needs into finance reporting and controls.
  • Ecosystem / Settlements (If applicable to role scope): Lead invoice validation, order settlements, and payment reconciliations with marketplaces/payment gateways through a structured tracker‑driven approach.
  • Track and resolve settlement mismatches, deductions, chargebacks, and payout delays; institutionalize RCA and prevention via process fixes.
Requirements
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA).
  • 1-3 years of experience post‑articleship (strong preference).
  • Prior experience in FP&A and/or Finance Controllership (planning/variance/cost & controls/closing/compliance).
  • Exposure to best‑practice environments such as Big4 / established CA firm / high‑performing startup finance team.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, GST, TDS, and financial compliance.
  • Strong Excel skills; comfort working with accounting software/ERPs (Tally / Zoho Books / any ERP).
  • Ability to lead execution through a team, drive closure, and manage multiple deliverables with high ownership.
Good to Have
  • Experience in marketplace settlement / reconciliation (Amazon, Flipkart, etc.).
  • Experience building reporting automation (Google Sheets/Excel automation practices, templates, controls, MIS discipline).
  • Exposure to fundraising/investor reporting, board decks, or internal audit/control frameworks.
Key Traits We Value
  • Automation mindset: you naturally remove manual work and reduce error‑prone steps.
  • 0-1 builder: enjoys setting up scalable systems and execution rhythms.
  • High ownership + high accuracy: closes loops, maintains hygiene, and raises the bar via strong reviews.
  • Problem‑solving orientation: fixes root causes, builds prevention, and develops the team’s capability.

Equal Opportunity Employer: We are an equal opportunity employer and encourage all qualified applicants to apply, regardless of race, colour, religion, gender, disability status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
