Job Description
TheHead of Bancassurance will provide strategic and operational leadership for theorganization’s Bancassurance business. The incumbent will build and scalestrategic banking partnerships, drive profitable growth, expand market reach,and enhance channel productivity across retail, rural, agricultural, SME,corporate, and specialty general insurance products.
Therole requires a seasoned leader with extensive banking and insurance networks,a strong record of acquiring and developing significant Bancassurancerelationships, and the ability to build a sustainable, scalable, andtechnology-enabled distribution business across India.
KeyResponsibilities
1.Strategy and Business Growth
- Develop and execute theBancassurance strategy in line with the organization’s growth andprofitability objectives.
- Define the long-termvision, operating model, business plan, revenue forecast, and expansionroadmap for the channel.
- Identify opportunitiesto acquire, expand, and deepen relationships with public sector, privatesector, foreign, regional rural, cooperative, and small finance banks.
- Build enterprise-levelcapabilities across technology, structure, people, processes, analytics,and governance to support scalable growth.
- Provide marketintelligence and strategic recommendations to the executive leadershipteam.
2.Strategic Partnerships
- Leverage industryrelationships and professional networks to acquire new bankingpartnerships and strengthen existing alliances.
- Identify, evaluate,negotiate, and close large and strategically important Bancassurancepartnerships.
- Lead commercialnegotiations, partnership agreements, joint business plans, servicemodels, and performance commitments.
- Develop customizedpropositions aligned with each partner’s customer segments, businesspriorities, and distribution strengths.
- Ensure effectiveonboarding, governance, development, and retention of bankingrelationships.
- Maintain a strongpipeline of prospective partners to support sustained channel growth.
3.Revenue and Profitability
- Own the Bancassurancechannel’s Gross Written Premium, revenue, market share, and profitabilitytargets.
- Drive profitable growthacross crop, motor, health, travel, personal accident, home, SME,commercial, corporate, and specialty insurance products.
- Develop annual operatingplans and ensure disciplined execution against agreed targets.
- Increase customeracquisition, product penetration, cross-selling, and wallet share acrosspartner banks.
- Monitor channelperformance, portfolio quality, productivity, conversion ratios, renewals,and profitability, and implement corrective actions where required.
4.Executive Relationship Management
- Build strongrelationships with CXOs, business heads, distribution leaders, productteams, and senior stakeholders within partner institutions.
- Act as the executivesponsor for strategic Bancassurance relationships.
- Lead periodic governancereviews, joint business planning sessions, and performance discussionswith banking partners.
- Establish effectiveengagement and escalation mechanisms to resolve strategic and operationalissues.
- Drive partnersatisfaction, engagement, and long-term retention.
- Represent theorganization at relevant banking, insurance, and financial servicesforums.
5.Distribution and Channel Excellence
- Design effective salesstructures, coverage models, incentive programs, partner engagementinitiatives, and productivity frameworks.
- Drive branch activation,relationship manager productivity, lead generation, conversionimprovement, and customer penetration.
- Ensure the effectivedeployment of sales resources across partners, regions, and businesssegments.
- Develop differentiateddistribution strategies based on partner type, customer profile,geography, and product potential.
- Provide strategicdirection and performance support to zonal and regional teams.
- Establish consistentchannel standards, operating rhythms, and review mechanisms across India.
6.Product, Technology, and Process Development
- Collaborate withunderwriting, actuarial, product, operations, marketing, technology,claims, and customer service teams to develop customized insurancesolutions.
- Introducecustomer-centric propositions for retail, rural, agricultural, SME,commercial, and corporate banking customers.
- Lead digital integrationwith partner banks across lead management, onboarding, underwriting,policy issuance, servicing, and reporting.
- Drive automation, dataintegration, and process simplification to improve scalability, customerexperience, and operating efficiency.
- Ensure that product andprocess innovations deliver customer value and sustainable profitability.
7.Team Leadership and Capability Building
- Build, mentor, and leada high-performing national Bancassurance team comprising zonal, regional,relationship, sales, and support functions.
- Establish clearperformance expectations, accountability, and leadership governance acrossthe channel.
- Foster a culture ofcollaboration, customer-centricity, execution excellence, ethical conduct,and high performance.
- Develop succession plansand leadership pipelines for critical roles.
- Implement training andcapability-building programs for internal teams, bank employees,relationship managers, and partner personnel.
- Strengthen productknowledge, consultative selling, regulatory awareness, and saleseffectiveness across the distribution network.
8.Compliance, Risk, and Governance
- Ensure compliance withIRDAI regulations, applicable banking and insurance guidelines, internalpolicies, and partner-bank requirements.
- Establish controls tomonitor sales conduct, customer suitability, operational risk, portfolioquality, and service standards.
- Address auditobservations, compliance gaps, and regulatory requirements within definedtimelines.
- Promote transparency,customer protection, ethical conduct, and strong corporate governance.
- Identify emerging risksand implement appropriate preventive and corrective measures.
9.Analytics and Executive Reporting
- Establish a robustmanagement information and analytics framework for monitoring channelperformance.
- Track premium growth,profitability, branch activation, relationship manager productivity,conversion ratios, product penetration, renewals, and partner-wisecontribution.
- Conduct regularperformance reviews across national, zonal, regional, and partner levels.
- Present businessperformance, risks, opportunities, and recommendations to the executiveleadership team.
- Use data, competitorinsights, and market intelligence to identify opportunities and improvedecision-making.

CandidateProfile
EducationalQualifications
- MBA or PGDM inMarketing, Sales, Finance, Strategy, or Business Management from a reputedinstitution.
- IRDAI certification, asapplicable.
- Additionalqualifications in insurance, banking, sales, strategy, or leadership willbe preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 25 years ofoverall experience in insurance, banking, financial services,distribution, or Bancassurance.
- At least 15 years ofleadership experience in Bancassurance partnerships or largeinstitutional distribution businesses.
- Proven experience inacquiring, developing, and scaling strategic banking relationships.
- Strong exposure togeneral insurance products, distribution models, and partner-led salesecosystems.
- Demonstrated success indelivering revenue growth, profitability, market expansion, and partnerdevelopment.
- Experience managinglarge banking alliances and geographically dispersed sales teams.
- Ability tobuild multifunctional capabilities across technology, products, people,processes, analytics, and governance.
