Job summary

Siemens Energy India Limited (SEIL) is seeking a GIS Service Engineer to ensure reliable operation of high-voltage GIS systems across customer sites. You will install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair GIS equipment up to 420kV, supporting customers through their asset lifecycle.

You will work with customers and cross-functional teams to deliver safe, efficient service, using diagnostic testing and on-site practices to resolve issues and improve reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Diploma in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 4–5 years' hands-on GIS/high-voltage switchgear experience.
• Strong understanding of GIS and safety standards IEC.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, maintain GIS systems up to 420kV.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair GIS equipment on-site.

A Snapshot of Your Day (GIS Service Engineer)

As a GIS Service Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation and performance of high-voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems across customer sites. You will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of GIS equipment up to 420kV, supporting customers through the entire lifecycle of their assets.

In this role, you will work closely with customers, project teams, engineering, quality, and field service professionals to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality service execution. You will leverage your technical expertise in high-voltage equipment, diagnostic testing, and site execution practices to resolve complex technical challenges, improve equipment reliability, and ensure customer satisfaction. We are looking for a technically strong and customer-focused service professional who can combine hands‑on field experience, problem‑solving capability, and operational excellence to support Siemens Energys service business growth.

How Youll Make an Impact

• Execute installation, commissioning, maintenance, and retrofit activities for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems up to 420kV while ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
• Carry out preventive maintenance and routine servicing activities to maximize equipment reliability, improve operational performance, and minimize unplanned outages.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair GIS equipment, including replacement of defective components, fault rectification, and post-maintenance testing.
• Perform on-site testing and diagnostics using specialized equipment such as CRM kits, CB timing kits, DCRM test kits, SF6 gas analyzers, HV PD test kits, CPC 100, and CT analyzers.
• Analyze technical issues and provide effective solutions to customers while ensuring minimum downtime and sustainable equipment performance.
• Support customers during planned shutdowns, emergency breakdowns, and critical operational situations with timely technical assistance.
• Ensure accurate documentation of service activities, maintenance records, testing reports, modifications, upgrades, and site observations.
• Conduct site audits and technical assessments to identify improvement opportunities, enhance service quality, and reduce non-conformities.
• Collaborate closely with customers, project teams, engineering teams, and service stakeholders to ensure efficient project execution and customer satisfaction.
• Ensure compliance with Siemens Energy safety standards, IEC requirements, environmental regulations, and site-specific procedures while maintaining a zero-incident culture.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on service quality, operational efficiency, technical excellence, and customer experience.
• Support business growth by building strong customer relationships, identifying service opportunities, and contributing to the overall success of the service organization.

What You Bring

• Bachelors Degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 4-5 years of hands‑on experience in installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of GIS or high‑voltage switchgear systems.
• Strong technical understanding of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), high‑voltage electrical equipment, protection systems, and substation applications.
• Hands‑on experience using advanced testing and diagnostic equipment such as CRM kits, CB timing kits, DCRM test kits, SF6 gas analyzers, HV PD test kits, CPC 100, CT analyzers, and related tools.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single‑line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose faults and implement effective corrective actions under challenging field conditions.
• Good understanding of electrical safety practices, IEC standards, maintenance procedures, and quality requirements related to high‑voltage equipment.
• Strong communication and customer management skills with the ability to explain technical issues and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within cross‑functional and multicultural teams.
• Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple activities in dynamic project environments.
• Willingness to travel extensively (up to 80%) for domestic and international assignments, including emergency service support and customer shutdown activities.
