Job summary

SYSTRA invites applications for the position of GIS Expert to support upcoming urban planning projects in India. The role focuses on building and maintaining geospatial databases, performing spatial analysis, and delivering GIS-based outputs for planning studies.

Ideal candidates have a minimum of 10 years in GIS/Remote Sensing, with strong proficiency in ArcGIS/QGIS and related tools. On-site work in Kolkata with opportunities to contribute to major transport and urban infrastructure

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in GIS, Remote Sensing, and geospatial data analysis.
• Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in Remote Sensing, GIS, Geoinformatics, or equivalent discipline from a recognized institution.
• Strong proficiency in ArcGIS, QGIS, ERDAS Imagine, ArcGIS Pro, or similar GIS software.
• Expertise in Remote Sensing, spatial analysis, geodatabase management, and GIS modelling.
• Knowledge of urban planning and land use planning concepts.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update geospatial databases for urban planning projects.
• Integrate spatial and non-spatial datasets from multiple sources.
• Conduct spatial analysis related to land use, transportation, infrastructure, environmental resources, demographics, and urban growth.
• Prepare thematic maps, spatial models, and analytical outputs to support planning studies.
• Process and analyze satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and other remote sensing datasets.
• Perform image interpretation, change detection analysis, and land use/land cover mapping.
• Coordinate integration of GPS, drone survey, field survey, and cadastral data into GIS platforms.
• Prepare GIS-based presentations, dashboards, maps, and visualizations for stakeholders.
• Contribute to technical reports, planning documents, and project deliverables.
