Despite producing large number of Engineering graduates, traditional academic systems are not generating enough day one ready talent for complex hardware translation, defense manufacturing, semiconductor packaging and medtech devices.
Building on the Ramaiah Groups 60 years legacy in higher education and research serving more than 18,000 students at any point in time, Ramaiah Institute for Advanced Skills and Technology (RAF) is launching a specialized deep science triad eco system in Bangalore. To close the gap between academic discovery, workforce readiness, and commercialization, we are executing a unique "triad" strategy designed to scale innovation in India.

- Ramaiah Institute for Advanced Skills and Technology (RIASAT): The engine for industry-ready talent and real-world engineering. RIASAT is dedicated to upskilling engineers in specialized domainsincluding Master 3D Design, Advanced VLSI Design, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Embedded Systems, Precision Manufacturing, Quantum computing and Software Engineering. It simultaneously acts as an industrial R&D hub to deliver technology-driven consulting solutions for critical industries such as Aerospace, Defense, Semiconductor & Advanced Manufacturing, and Medtech.
- Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management (RISM): A Greenfield, Next-generation deemed university (under approval process). Position Overview
We are seeking a formidable General Manager & Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with 15+ years of execution-focused experience across high-complexity domains. Operating within the triad, the CTO will act as the ultimate "Product Architect."\
This role demands a visionary leader capable of bridging the "Valley of Death" between applied research and commercial productization. You will leverage the world-class, government-backed lab infrastructure of our partner Section 8 Institute to translate raw deep-tech research into highly profitable, market-ready industrial products. Your mandate is to connect global high-complexity technologies with Indias precision manufacturing and software ecosystems to build a sustainable, IP-led competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Technology Leadership (TRL-4 to TRL-7)
- Roadmap Execution: Define and execute a ruthless, long-term technology and product roadmap across Aerospace & Defense, Semiconductor & Microelectronics, Cybersecurity, Health-tech, and Advanced Manufacturing.
- Commercial Translation: Lead the rapid transition from lab-scale prototypes into commercially viable, "Made in India" industrial products ready for Tier-1 deployment.
2. Asset-Light R&D & Infrastructure Utilization
- The "Lab Ownership" Model: Execute an asset-light commercial strategy. Rather than raising massive R&D CapEx for heavy machinery on the commercial balance sheet, you will define high-level specifications and leverage existing world-class infrastructure across India via strategic partnerships.
- Execution via MSA: Leverage grant-funded facilities (including Teardown, Advanced Materials, and Semiconductor Testing labs) through compliant Master Service Agreements (MSAs) to execute rapid prototyping and commercial indigenization.
- Global Compliance: Implement rigorous global industrial lab standards (e.g., AS9100 for Aerospace, ISO 13485 for Medtech) to ensure all lab outputs are commercially certifiable from Day 1.
3. IP Strategy & Indigenization
- Patent Portfolio: Architect and aggressively expand a robust Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio.
- The Indigenization Agenda: Drive the conversion of global technology benchmarks into proprietary, indigenous IP that can be commercialized, licensed, or spun off into highly valued new ventures.
4. Talent Pipeline Integration & Cross-Functional Leadership
- The Ultimate Customer: Act as the primary internal "customer" for the Lead Curriculum Architect of the Skills Academy. You will provide the live, real-world "Problem Statements" that B.Tech and M.Tech cohorts must solve during their Capstone projects.
- Cohort Evaluation: Act as the primary evaluator for the 9- and 12-month student cohorts, ensuring the Academy's talent pipeline is actively accelerating your commercial product roadmap.
- Domain Orchestration: Drive integrated program management across engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams to ensure a seamless lab-to-market transition.
5. Research Partnership Management (RPM)
- Strategic Alliances: Spearhead high-level technical partnerships with DRDO, ISRO, BEL, HAL, Semiconductor Fabs/OSATs, and premier global academic institutions.
- Joint Development: Structure co-funded research initiatives, technology transfer agreements, and provide elite quality engineering consultancy to the broader industry.
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience: 15+ years of technical leadership spanning multiple high-complexity domains (Aerospace & Defense, Semiconductors, Cybersecurity, Advanced Manufacturing, or Health-tech).
- Scaling R&D: Proven track record of reengineering complex global products, scaling deep-tech R&D organizations, and developing patent portfolios.
- Government Navigation: Strong exposure to Indian government procurement frameworks, defence offset policies, and strategic sector funding models.
- Education: Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.Tech, or MS) in Engineering, Semiconductor Technology, Materials Science, Aerospace, or a closely related deep-science domain.
