Job summary

NewSpace Research & Technologies is seeking a Senior Project Manager – Defence Programs in Bengaluru/Delhi NCR. You will drive project tracking, documentation, compliance, and cross-functional coordination across Engineering, Production, SCM, Quality, Legal, and Compliance to ensure on-time delivery of complex UAV programs.

This role offers full lifecycle exposure from development through certification and production in a fast-paced, R&D environment.

Qualifications

  • 3–4 years of experience driving project planning and control in aerospace/defence.
  • Experience in multi-stakeholder technical programs and lifecycle management.
  • Proficiency with PM tools (MS Project, Wrike, ClickUp, Jira, SAP).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and accountability for delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and ability to produce concise reports.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and track project milestones, schedules, and risks.

Job description

We are a start-up based out of Bengaluru & Delhi NCR. We are engaged in development of next generation missions and technologies (NGM&T) towards future warfare needs of the Indian defence forces. It is undertaking research towards enhancing persistence and autonomy for unmanned vehicles and robotic swarms. NRT’s product development portfolio includes a solar power stratospheric high altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS) unmanned platform and an air/ground launched stand-off autonomous system.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Plan project communications – meetings, email etc. Facilitate key stakeholder updates. Create Minutes of Meetings.
  • Create and maintain project management documents based on set templates according to ISO / AS9100 standards.
  • Collaborate with the Systems Engineering(SE) Team to monitor and assess the technical progress of the project.
  • Track project health and schedule as laid down in the WBS plans via task management / collaborative task management tools.
  • Monitor KPIs / milestones laid down for the project. Generate a report for PM to review. Capture and share lessons learned through the execution of the project. Manage knowledge sharing between all stakeholders.
  • Identify, report, and monitor project risks. Collaborate with Systems Engineering(SE) Team to assess technical risks.
  • Work closely with the SCM and the finance teams to facilitate the procurement pertaining to the project. Monitor project expenditures and overall budget. Provide periodic updates via reports / dashboards.
  • Conduct market surveys, gather information supporting submissions of EOI / RFP / RFQ and other bids and proposals.
  • Creation of project status summary, project briefs, executive summaries etc. to facilitate management decisions.
Must have skills:
  • Prior experience of working in the UAV industry.
  • 3-4 years of experience in driving project planning and control roles.
  • Has working knowledge of PM tools like Microsoft Project / Wrike / ClickUp / Jira / SAP etc along with resource loading and critical path analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and productively with minimal supervision.
  • Self driven and accountable for the delivery of work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assimilate information and create concise summaries and reports.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Aerospace/Aeronautics, Mechanical) in Engineering.

Role Overview

The Senior Project Manager – Defence Programs will be responsible for driving project tracking, documentation, compliance, and cross-functional coordination across all internal teams (Engineering, Production, SCM, Quality, Legal, and Compliance). This role ensures on-time and proactive coordination towards ensuring timely delivery of complex Unmanned Aerial Systems programs while maintaining aerospace standards, documentation rigour, and certification compliance.

This position offers full lifecycle exposure to cutting-edge defence programs — from development through certification and production — in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
1. Project Tracking & Coordination

Own and maintain project trackers for deliverables, milestones, dependencies, and risk flags across multiple teams: Production, SCM, Quality, Engineering, and Support Functions.

Drive schedule adherence, task allocation, and daily progress tracking through digital tools (ClickUp, MS Project, or equivalent).

Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Production, Finance, IT, Admin, etc) to resolve operational bottlenecks.

Prepare weekly and monthly project dashboards, highlight critical path activities, and report delays or issues for leadership review.

2. Documentation & Governance

Develop and maintain project documentation templates and stage-gate deliverables.

Ensure internal and external documentation compliance for design reviews, production milestones, and delivery audits.

Maintain document version control and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.

Support techno-legal document reviews (NDAs, contracts, agreements) in coordination with paralegal/legal teams.

3. Compliance & Certification

Support and track compliance to Aerospace Standards and Defence Quality Assurance (DGQA) requirements.

Coordinate certification efforts for Type Certification of UAVs — including DGCA, EASA, and related regulatory bodies.

Liaise with certification authorities and ensure documentation is audit-ready and standards-compliant.

Interface with the legal and paralegal teams for techno-legal reviews, NDAs, license agreements, and renewals.

Support coordination of IP and patent filing activities related to project deliverables.

Track industrial licenses – granted, pending, and renewal cycles – ensuring compliance and timely submission.

5. PLM Implementation & Process Digitization

Participate in or lead the implementation of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools across the organization.

Support tool evaluation, deployment, user training, and adoption for PLM systems such as ENOVIA, Teamcenter, or Duro.

Work with cross-functional teams to align PLM structures with ongoing project workflows and documentation needs.

Project Management:

Proven experience managing multi-stakeholder technical programs.

Strong understanding of deliverable-based tracking and cross-functional coordination.

Proficiency in project management software (ClickUp, MS Project, JIRA, or equivalent).

Technical & Compliance:

Awareness of Aerospace standards, Defence compliance frameworks, and certification processes.

Understanding of production, supply chain, and quality workflows in aerospace/defence environments.

Documentation & Legal Interface:

Skilled in technical documentation, version control, and techno-legal review processes.

Familiarity with IP filing coordination, NDAs, and industrial licensing is preferred.

PLM Systems:

Exposure to PLM tools like ENOVIA, Teamcenter, or Duro is desirable.

Soft Skills:

Excellent organizational, analytical, and stakeholder management abilities.

High attention to detail, with a “track-to-close” mindset.

Ability to thrive in a dynamic, cross-disciplinary, and fast-evolving R&D setup.

Ideal Candidate Profile

3–4 years of experience in Aerospace, Defence, or Industrial Manufacturing programs.

Demonstrated ability to handle multi-stakeholder project execution with discipline and accountability.

Has seen at least two complete project lifecycles (from initiation to delivery or certification).
