Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in Gemology or a related field required.
• Hands-on experience in gemstone inspection and quality control.
• Strong knowledge of precious and semi-precious gemstones and grading standards.
• Ability to identify treatments and distinguish synthetic or imitation stones.
• Excellent colour perception and meticulous documentation skills.
• Independent work style and cross-department coordination are essential.
• Honest, reliable handling of high-value gemstones.

Responsibilities

• Inspect gemstones for colour, clarity, cut, carat weight, size, shape and overall appearance.
• Verify gemstones against purchase specs, customer requirements, and standards.
• Identify inclusions, fractures, surface defects, colour zoning and other imperfections.
• Measure and weigh gemstones using calibrated instruments.
• Check consistency of colour, size, cut, and quality across lots.
• Flag damaged or poorly cut stones and categorize by quality grades.
• Verify certificates and match stones to documentation.
• Maintain QC records, inspection reports and acceptance/rejection logs.
• Communicate quality discrepancies to suppliers and support resolutions.
• Ensure proper handling, tagging and secure storage throughout QC process.
• Support supplier quality evaluations and track recurring issues.
• Follow SOPs and maintain confidentiality.

Role Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented Gemstone QC Executive to inspect, grade, and verify the quality and authenticity of gemstones prior to purchase, production, or dispatch. The ideal candidate has strong working knowledge of gemstone quality parameters, treatments, and common inclusions, combined with excellent attention to detail and colour perception.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect gemstones for colour, clarity, cut, carat weight, size, shape, and overall appearance.
• Verify gemstones against purchase specifications, customer requirements, and internal quality standards.
• Identify inclusions, fractures, surface defects, colour zoning, and other imperfections.
• Measure and weigh gemstones accurately using calibrated instruments and equipment.
• Check consistency of colour, size, cut, and quality across lots and parcels.
• Flag damaged, chipped, cracked, or poorly cut stones.
• Sort and categorise gemstones according to approved quality grades.
• Verify gemstone certificates and match stones to their corresponding documentation.
• Maintain accurate QC records, inspection reports, and acceptance/rejection reports.
• Communicate quality discrepancies to suppliers and support resolution of disputed or rejected lots.
• Ensure proper handling, identification, tagging, and secure storage of gemstones throughout the QC process.
• Support periodic supplier quality evaluations and track recurring quality issues.
• Follow company SOPs and maintain high standards of accuracy and confidentiality.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in Gemology or a related field preferred.
• Practical, hands-on experience in gemstone inspection and quality control.
• Strong knowledge of precious and semi-precious gemstones.
• Solid understanding of gemstone grading standards and quality parameters.
• Ability to identify common gemstone treatments and distinguish synthetic or imitation stones.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate colour perception.
• Good documentation and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively across departments.
• Honest, reliable, and careful when handling high-value gemstones.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with diamonds, coloured gemstones, natural gemstones, treated stones, synthetic stones, and gemstone certification will be an added advantage.
