Job summary

Furlenco in Bengaluru is seeking a Furniture Designer with 3+ years of experience to take ideas from sketch to finished products. You will work across research, concept development, 3D modelling, material exploration, prototyping and manufacturing, collaborating with engineering, sourcing, and quality teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience in Furniture Design, Product Design or Industrial Design.
• Degree in Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Product Design or related discipline.
• Strong understanding of furniture construction, materials, finishes and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with 3D modelling and rendering tools such as Rhino, SolidWorks, SketchUp, Fusion 360, KeyShot, Blender or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Design & concept development from research to final concepts.
• Translate ideas into sketches, mood boards, 3D models, prototypes and presentations.
• Create designs balancing aesthetics, comfort, functionality and commercial requirements.
• Develop designs aligned with Furlenco’s design language.
• Own design projects from concept through production and final samples.
• Create detailed drawings, material and finish specifications.
• Work with engineering, sourcing, manufacturing and quality teams throughout development.
• Consider durability, ergonomics, cost, packaging and lifecycle during design.

All of our furniture is designed in-house by experts. We don’t just give furniture. We provide decor, accessories and appliances as well. We have launched our first ever offline stores so that one can furnish their entire home, room or corner without traversing multiple stores or websites!

About the Role

We’re looking for a Furniture Designer with 3+ years of experience to join our Design team in Bengaluru.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys taking an idea from a sketch all the way to a finished product. You’ll work across research, concept development, 3D modelling, material exploration, prototyping and manufacturing, while collaborating closely with engineering, sourcing, manufacturing and quality teams.

What You’ll Do

Design & Concept Development

• Research customer needs, trends and market opportunities to develop fresh furniture concepts.
• Translate ideas into sketches, mood boards, 3D models, prototypes and presentations.
• Create designs that balance aesthetics, comfort, functionality and commercial requirements.
• Develop designs that are aligned with Furlenco’s design language.

Take Ideas from Concept to Production

• Own design projects from the initial concept through development and production.
• Create detailed drawings, material and finish specifications.
• Work on prototypes and samples, evaluate them and make improvements based on testing and feedback.
• Collaborate with engineering, sourcing, manufacturing and quality teams throughout the development process.

Design for the Real World

• Consider durability, ergonomics, ease of assembly and serviceability while designing.
• Make thoughtful choices around materials, manufacturing processes and cost.
• Consider packaging, logistics, refurbishment and the overall product lifecycle.
• Work closely with manufacturers and vendors to ensure designs can be produced effectively.
• Work closely with senior designers, engineers, manufacturers and vendors.
• Communicate design ideas and intent clearly through sketches, models, technical drawings and presentations.
• Participate in design reviews and confidently explain your design decisions while being open to feedback.
• Take ownership of your projects and work collaboratively to bring them to life.

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of professional experience in Furniture Design, Product Design or Industrial Design.
• A degree in Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Product Design or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of furniture construction, materials, finishes and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with 3D modelling and rendering tools such as Rhino, SolidWorks, SketchUp, Fusion 360, KeyShot, Blender or similar tools.
• Strong sketching, visualisation and technical drawing skills.
• Good understanding of ergonomics and human-centred design.
• Experience working with manufacturers and vendors.
• Strong research, problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.
• A portfolio that demonstrates your design thinking, development process and manufactured/realised products.
