Job description

# FinOps & Cloud Architecture Engineer Cloud & Infrastructure Team | Full-Time | Mid-Level (7–12 years)

About the Role

This is a hybrid role within Fortive’s Cloud & Infrastructure Team, combining cloud engineering with FinOps ownership. The focus is on designing and maintaining secure, scalable, cost-conscious cloud environments while improving how cloud spend is tracked and controlled. The engineer will work with engineering, Finance, and business stakeholders to make costs more predictable as the environment grows. The role balances architecture decisions with budgeting, forecasting, allocation, and optimization work. Early success is measured by fully tagged and allocated cloud spend with team- or product-level visibility, architecture reviews that surface cost and reliability risks before release, and sustained reductions in cloud waste.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain secure, scalable, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
  • Build and support Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
  • Review compute, storage, and networking decisions for both technical fit and cost impact.
  • Support migrations, rightsizing efforts, and the use of managed or serverless services where they reduce cost or operational overhead.
  • Create reporting that shows cloud spend, forecasts, and budget variance across teams.
  • Define and enforce tagging, showback/chargeback, and cost-allocation standards across cloud accounts.
  • Drive savings opportunities such as reserved instances/savings plans, spot usage, rightsizing, storage tiering, and idle resource cleanup.
  • Partner with Finance and business leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cloud unit economics.
  • Track FinOps KPIs and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Assess cloud cost-management tools, including native cloud tools and Flexera.
Required Skills
  • 6–10 years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, or a related field, with practical exposure to cost management.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong understanding of cloud billing models, cost drivers, and optimization levers such as reserved capacity, autoscaling, and storage classes.
  • Ability to build reports and dashboards in Excel, Looker, Tableau, or native cloud cost tools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical cost drivers to Finance and business stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of GitHub.
Preferred Skills
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) certification or equivalent.
  • Cloud architecture certification, such as AWS Solutions Architect.
  • Working knowledge of a second major cloud provider.
  • Experience with Kubernetes cost management tools such as Kubecost and containerized workloads.
  • Familiarity with FinOps tooling.
  • Scripting ability in Python, Bash, or similar for automating reports or cleanup tasks.
Cloud Platforms & Technologies
  • Cloud Providers: AWS, Azure, GCP
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, CloudFormation
  • Containers & Kubernetes: Kubernetes, containerized workloads
  • FinOps Platforms / Cloud Cost Management: native cloud cost tools, Flexera, Kubecost
  • Programming Languages / Scripting: Python, Bash
  • Reporting & BI: Excel, Looker, Tableau
  • Collaboration Tools: GitHub
FinOps Responsibilities
  • Improve spend visibility through dashboards and reports covering spend, forecasts, and budget variance.
  • Establish and enforce tagging, showback/chargeback, and cost-allocation standards.
  • Identify and execute optimizations across reserved instances/savings plans, spot usage, rightsizing, storage tiering, and idle resource cleanup.
  • Work with Finance and business leaders on budgeting, forecasting, and unit economics.
  • Track FinOps KPIs such as cost per unit, waste percentage, and savings realized.
  • Evaluate cloud cost-management tooling, including native cloud cost tools and Flexera.
Benefits
  • Eligible for bonus as part of the total compensation package.
Why You Might Be Interested
