Job summary

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) in Delhi seeks a self-driven Finance Officer who can own outcomes and drive execution. You will support a high-performance finance function underpinning CEEW’s mission in energy and environment, and you will work as a dependable middle layer ensuring nothing gets stuck at the top.

Responsibilities include budgeting, donor fund tracking, GST/TDS/FCRA compliance, payroll, vendor payments, and building clear internal reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting or related field (essential).
  • CA Inter / MBA Finance / M.Com preferred (advantage).
  • 2-7 years of relevant nonprofit sector experience (preferred).

  • Support the preparation and monitoring of project budgets.
  • Assist in donor fund tracking, grant utilisation, and reporting.
  • Ensure timely statutory compliance (FCRA, GST, TDS, etc.).
  • Assist in payroll processing, vendor payments, and reconciliations.
  • Create clear internal reports and MIS; support audits.

Job description

We are looking for a self-driven Finance Officer who can take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks. This person will play a pivotal role in ensuring nothing gets stuck at the top by becoming a dependable middle layer within the team. The Finance Officer will drive execution, bring clarity to ambiguity, and lead through trust and example.

This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, committed to excellence, and eager to grow into a future leadership position. You will support a high-performance finance function that underpins CEEW’s mission in the energy and environment space.

Job Duties and Accountabilities
  • Support the preparation and monitoring of project budgets.
  • Assist in donor fund tracking, grant utilisation, and reporting
  • Ensure timely and accurate statutory compliance (FCRA, GST, TDS, etc.)
  • Assist in payroll processing, vendor payments, and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure timely financial inputs.
  • Draft, review, and support financial documentation for grants and consultancy contracts.
  • Build clarity and consistency in internal reports and MIS.
  • Identify bottlenecks and proactively solve problems before escalation
  • Create systems and processes where they don’t yet exist.
  • Contribute to automation, migration, and digital improvement efforts.
  • Handle data management in tools like Zoho Books, Excel, and Google Workspace
  • Participate in internal audits and respond to audit queries
  • Bring structure to ambiguity and support clean, efficient execution
  • Keeping a close watch on the Council’s statutory compliance.
  • Close coordination with the HR and Admin team related to financial matters.
  • All other supporting tasks
Selection Criteria
Educational Background
  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or related field (essential)
  • Professional qualifications (CA Inter, M. Com, or MBA Finance) preferred.
Experience
  • 2-7 years of relevant experience, preferably in a non-profit, CSR, or development sector context
  • Experience handling donor compliance, statutory filings, and internal processes.
  • Exposure to Zoho Books, Tally, or similar systems.
Technical Skills
  • Strong command of Excel, Google Sheets, PPT’s and Storytelling tools.
  • Working knowledge of GST, TDS, FCRA, and Income Tax.
  • Comfortable creating financial reports and PowerPoint summaries for decision-makers.
  • Self-driven with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Go-getter mindset with high ownership of work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Able to lead by example and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to turn vague asks into structured outputs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
