Job Description
The EV/HEV Powertrain integration engineer owns the technical definition and integration of the EV powertrain as a system: dimension the motor, inverter, battery, transmission and thermal system needs against the vehicle targets, cascade and manage the powertrain needs down to each component, manage the interfaces between them and plan and execute the verification and validation that proves the integrated powertrain meets the performance, range, thermal, durability and regulatory targets. This role converts vehicle-level attribute targets into a consistent, traceable and verifiable powertrain specification and is accountable for the technical coherence, delivery and maturity of the powertrain system at every program gate.

Section: R&D - EV Sys D&D
Location: Hosur
Education Qualification:
B.E. / B.Tech / M.E. / M.Tech in Mechanical, Automotive,Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering
Required Experience:
6 - 10 years in EV or HEV powertrain integration engineering, including hands-on responsibility for powertrain sizing, requirement cascade and system-level validation on at least one vehicle programme taken to production.
RoleDescription
Accountability: Powertrain Sizing and Dimensioning
- Translate vehicle attribute targets (top speed, acceleration, gradeability, range, payload, duty cycle) into motor, inverter, battery, transmission and thermal system specifications.
- Build and maintain the powertrain sizing models: roadload, tractive effort, motor and inverter operating envelopes, gear ratioselection and battery energy/power sizing.
- Perform trade-off and sensitivity studies (efficiency vscost vs weight vs packaging) and produce the technical basis for architectureand sourcing decisions.
- Define, maintain and document the powertrain operatinglimits: continuous and peak power, current, voltage and temperature envelopesacross ambient and state-of-charge conditions.
Accountability: Powertrain delivery, SystemRequirements Engineering and Traceability
- Coordinate across all component owners and stakeholdersfor the delivery of the powertrain with the expected maturity at each programgate (create system level documentation like DFMEA, FTA, QC stories and supportcomponent level deliverable).
- Derive powertrain system requirements from vehicle, regulatory, safety and customer requirements and cascade them to componentspecifications.
- Maintain the requirement baseline, versioning andbidirectional traceability in the requirements management tool.
- Manage change impact analysis across components, suppliersand validation plans.
Accountability: System Integration and InterfaceManagement
- Define and control the powertrain interfaces: mechanicalmounting and cooling, HV and LV electrical packaging, diagnosis, etc.
- Maintain interface control documents and resolveintegration conflicts between motor, inverter, battery, charger, transmission, thermal system and vehicle.
- Own the powertrain thermal integration concept: coolingarchitecture, flow and heat rejection budgets and thermal derating behaviour atsystem level.
- Support packaging, weight and cost tracking of thepowertrain together with vehicle integration and mechanical design.
- Produce and maintain system specifications, architecturedescriptions, integration reports and gate review packages.
- Contribute to the ISO 26262 item definition, HARA andsystem-level safety concept for the powertrain and verify the derived safetyrequirements.
Accountability: Vehicle and Powertrain PerformanceAnalysis and Benchmarking
- Build and correlate vehicle and powertrain simulationmodels (MATLAB-Simulink) for performance, energy consumption and rangeprediction. Coordinate with the advanced simulation team for more detailedsimulations if required.
- Create real-use drive cycles from field data and vehicletargets.
- Predict and verify certification and real-world cycleperformance (WMTC, IDC/MIDC, WLTC and customer duty cycles) and track therange/consumption budget through the programme.
- Own the powertrain energy and loss budget: motor, inverter, battery, transmission, auxiliaries and thermal losses; driveefficiency improvement actions.
- Correlate simulation against dyno and vehicle measurementand maintain model accuracy and confidence statements.
- Benchmark competitor powertrains and technologies and feedthe findings into target setting and architecture roadmaps.
Accountability: Powertrain System DVP Planning andExecution and Homologation
- Define and execute the powertrain DVP: analysis, bench, dyno, environmental, durability and vehicle-level tests with acceptancecriteria linked to requirements.
- Analyse test data, judge requirement compliance, documentdeviations and drive design or calibration countermeasures to closure.
- Support homologation and certification activities with the required technical data, calculations and test evidence.
- Capture lessons learned and maintain reusablesizing methods, calculation templates and design guidelines.
