Job Description
Position description:
The EV/HEV Powertrain integration engineer owns the functional layer of the EV/HEV powertrain: decompose vehicle-level powertrain functions into a coherent functional architecture, allocate functions to controllers, develop the control algorithms that govern torque path, power flow and energy management and drive their deployment into the embedded software of the VCU/HCU and other powertrain ECUs. The role bridges powertrain system engineering and embedded software. This tole is accountable for the functional behaviour, safety monitoring and calibration quality of the powertrain in the vehicle and ensures proper scalability and modularity across platforms.

Section:
R&D - EV Sys D&D
Location:
Hosur
Education Qualification:
B.E. / B.Tech / M.E. / M.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics or Control Systems / Automotive Electronics preferred.
Required Experience:
6 - 10 years in powertrain control functional development and integration, with demonstrated ownership of powertrain functions from concept and functional decomposition to embedded deployment to vehicle-level calibration.
RoleDescription
"Accountability: Powertrain Functional Architecture andFunctional Decomposition"
Tasks:
- - Decompose vehicle-level powertrain functions (propulsion, regeneration, charging, thermal, limp-home, derating) into functional blockswith defined inputs, outputs and responsibilities.
- - Define the functional architecture and allocate functionsto controllers (VCU/HCU, motor controller, BMS, DC-DC, Charger), including thesignals and interface definition between them.
- - Own the powertrain operating mode and state machinedefinition, transitions, arbitration priorities and fault-reaction behaviour.
- - Maintain functional specifications and traceability fromsystem requirements to functions, models and test cases."
"Accountability: Powertrain Control AlgorithmsDevelopment"
Tasks:
- - Develop and own the torque management path: driver torque interpretation, torque arbitration and coordination, torque limiting, ramping and shaping for drivability.
- - Develop and own power flow and energy management functions: power split and budgeting between battery, motor controller, charging and auxiliaries.
- - Develop derating and protection functions based on thermal, electrical and state-of-charge limits, coordinated across all powertrain components.
- - Develop regeneration, hill-hold, reverse and drive-mode functions and tune them for consistent and predictable vehicle behaviour without losing focus on scalability and modularity.
- - Create functional flows in SysML (MBSE)."
"Accountability: Embedded Integration and Deployment into Controllers"
Tasks:
- - Create and maintain models for code generation (MATLAB /Simulink).
- - Work with the embedded software team and suppliers to integrate generated code into the ECU software baseline: resolve integration, scheduling and runtime issues on target if required.
- - Define and maintain the interface between the functional layer and the basic software: signals, calibration parameters, NVM data and diagnostic interfaces.
- - Verify that the deployed behaviour on target matches the model behaviour (back-to-back testing) and close deviations."
"Accountability: Interface, Issue and Configuration Management"
Tasks:
- - Coordinate with component owners (motor controller, VCU/HCU, BMS, charger) and the embedded software team on signal, timing and behaviour agreements.
- - Manage supplier technical interactions on functional content, model exchange, calibration deliveries and joint debugging.
- - Maintain model, calibration and documentation baselines.
- - Contribute to modelling guidelines, reusable function libraries and competence development within the controls team."
"Accountability: Functional Safety Concept and Monitoring Architecture"
Tasks:
- - Derive the functional and safety concept for the powertrain functions from the HARA and cascade safety requirements to controllers and components.
- - Design and implement the torque and power monitoring architecture: plausibility checks, monitoring functions, safe states and fault reactions.
- - Define diagnostics, DTCs set/reset conditions, debounce strategies and the failure reaction matrix across the powertrain.
- - Support safety analyses (FMEA, FTA, dependent failure analysis) and the associated verification evidence."
"Accountability: MIL / SIL / HIL Verification, Calibration and Vehicle Drivability"
Tasks:
- - Build test schemes and execute MIL and SIL verification with defined coverage of requirements, decisions and boundary conditions.
- - Support HIL team to create plant models for closed-loop function verification, fault injection and regression testing of each release.
- - Own the calibration data set for the powertrain functions and perform vehicle and dyno calibration.
- - Lead vehicle-level drivability tuning and functional issue resolution: reproduce, diagnose and close field and test-fleetobservations.
