Job summary

Value Research is an independent investment research firm that studies companies and industries to educate and influence a very large audience of retail investors. We combine analytical acumen with creative problem-solving to turn research into clear, accessible content and publish across Value Research Online and Wealth Insight magazines.

We are long-term value investors who explain our reasoning so readers can judge it themselves.

Qualifications

• Graduate in commerce, economics, finance, management, or any discipline paired with a real interest in markets.
• Genuine curiosity about how businesses make money, and the eagerness to keep learning.
• Strong written English, and the ability to explain something complex simply and accurately, to a deadline.
• Comfort with numbers and financial statements, or the appetite to become comfortable quickly.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking, and the honesty to say when you do not know something.

Responsibilities

• Research listed Indian companies and industries: read annual reports, quarterly results and regulatory filings, and form a view on the business, its financial health and its valuation.
• Write clear, reasoned research on companies, industries and investing themes for a retail investor audience, and keep our reference content on stocks accurate and current.
• Turn analysis into narrative. Make a complex financial idea understandable without making it shallow.
• Track results seasons, corporate actions and regulatory developments, and explain what each actually means for an investor.
• Work with our proprietary stock scores, ratings and quantitative screens, and understand the reasoning underneath them well enough to explain it.
• Verify every number to its source.
• Contribute equity analysis and columns to Wealth Insight magazine, and support management and fund manager interviews with research briefs.
• Work with the editorial and design teams so the finished piece helps a reader understand faster.

About Value Research

Value Research is an independent investment research firm founded in 1990. We began with equity research, with a report on PSU disinvestment, and have since built India's most widely used mutual fund and stock research platform. Our work reaches millions of investors through Value Research Online, the monthly magazines Mutual Fund Insight and Wealth Insight, and our SEBI-registered advisory services. We are paid by our readers, not by the companies we cover. That independence is the whole product.

Role overview

This role lets you combine analytical acumen with creative problem-solving to educate and influence a very large audience. You will study companies and industries, work with our proprietary stock scores and ratings, and turn what you find into research that helps retail investors decide for themselves.

One thing to be clear about up front. We are long-term value investors. We are not here for the thrill of watching charts move, and we do not chase whatever the market is excited about this week. Our job is to help readers find good businesses and hold them, and to explain our reasoning well enough that they can judge it for themselves.

Analysis and writing carry equal weight here. This is a research and publishing role, not an advisory one, so you will not be issuing personalized buy or sell recommendations to clients.

Good to Have

• Prior experience in equity research, investment analysis or financial journalism. Desirable, not required.
• Progress towards CFA, CA, or a postgraduate qualification in finance or economics.
• NISM Series XV, Research Analyst certification. We will support you in obtaining it.
• Writing you can show us, published anywhere.
